Not quite lighting powers, just good old fashined ki energy some of these characters use to "boost" their physical capabilities, not unlike Deku from My Hero Academia.
It's something I'll eventually elaborate on and explain more during the story, in extreme cases like the one portrayed in this frame, it manifests like lighting sorrounding the limbs or user.
Though it's mostly for visual flair

Haha, well, I'm obviously very inspired with Dragon Ball xD, no way around that. Even some characters designs like Seki are clearly emulating that style (what with the spiky banana hair and all)
Inspriation comes from different sources though, and then we add a bit on top of that and try to switch things up a bit.
But I still start off with the basics Dragon ball set forth.

You'll notice more and more differences as I take more liberties with some of the photo references. As I said, I'm trying to imitate, and copy clothes as best as possible, but not outright copying it, since I change some body proportions and other small details on purpose.
But it should still look similar and accurate on it's own.
Just like potraits, I think I'm growing more and more comfortable with the process. I'm enjoying this exercice quite a bit and very happy with the progress.
Also worked on a manga page, progess overall is going slow, but steady!

A few more days, a few more updates.
8 out of the 10 cloth from photo references exercices complete so far.
I feel like I stabilized in a style I'm comfortable with. So just continuing with the style for now.
And as usual, one more page of the manga done as well. This one took some work... still thinking of refining shadows, but I feel it's "good enough", so I think I'll just move to the next one.

Alright, a few more days, a bit more progress!
Last 2 of the 10 exercices from photo references for clothes.
Figured I would try more form tight clothes, which you would assume it's easy because of the simple lines, but actually ended up more challenging than expected because it's so dependant on the anatomy below it.
And for the final one I just really liked the original reference.
I noticed that as the exercices progressed, I used the reference as a base, but ended up taking more and more liberties for some of the folds and shadows, tryng to naturally follow anchor points and how fabric folded over the character rather than attempting to copy the folds in the referene. Of course both characters have the same pose, so it's only natural folds came out similar, but I do feel like I learned a lot on how clothes behave.
Next is 5 studies, but this time from profesional artists. It'll be interesting to make note of how they interpret cloth details and folds.
Still progressing on the manga, I've made the habit of switching between the course exercices and working on manga panels. Helps me get a perspective for each work after taking a bried break from it.
It's just one big perspective shot, though it took some work since I'm still refining my work on environments.

Thanks! I was thinking about it... I think it took 2 hours to do the sketch, 2 hours to ink it, and probably revisited a few more times... so all in all, about 5-6 hrs, which is what a page usually takes.
I think it can be improved on, but I currently go by "is it good enough?" to try to keep a steady schedule. Instead of spending more time on it, I hope to make the next one better.
that is impressive! that'd take me a lot longer than that to draw a fancy building breaking apart like that!
Thanks! That's actually very reassuring, I still have a hard time with envrionments, it's hard to know when it's "good enough". I guess it's all about just doing it over and over until it becomes easier.
Great to see that you are looking to see and understand folds and shadows rather than just copy what the references just show. I'm also learning to do the same thing for my cartoon as I learn to follow the character flow (which is gonna be cartoony anyway) rather than just copy what the reference photo shows, both folding and shadow wise.
Also nice to see you split up your work between courses and manga perspective work. Is that done to ensure you work in your perceived weakness?
