  • Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?
  • Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with you

It feels really nice I hope it stays this way A portrait of old dude. It's the same character I posted a while ago. Inspired by Bayard Wu work. At first I thought of him as a bear but I named him Fenrir and I think wolf suits him better. Eye gave me a bit of hard time but I think it is fine now. I focused on face and forgot about area below. The way I draw hair clashes with greying hair. I had the same problem while doing Lohse's white hair. Does it looks like it is greying here? I love how desaturated red looks blue there. I keep lying to myself that I will use different color scheme but It all comes down to this blue and yellowish one it is just flipped this time Have a great day!

Looks damn good. Excellent work.
If I'm being picky, her legs look a little funny from the back, like it's too skinny, and her spine... huh.. hole? not sure what word to use, where her spine is seems a bit too deep for comfortt.

both of these could just be the angle though, and i'm just being nitpicky, it looks amazing.

Thank you so much for the feed back! i totally agree some of the anatomy got a little wacky when i posed her, i need to put more time into reviewing proportions too lol I'll make sure to look more at those areas in the future

Sculpt Upper Body Focus 2/5 : Gladiator Boy

Hello! here's another character study i did. Sculpted from a sphere again. I spent alot more time getting familiar with Zmodeller tools, learning how to make some simple stuff and this was my first attempt at making belts/ straps. Lol thank god there's IMMs for that... If you see anything that i could improve on i would love to hear!

My Sculpt:

I'm starting to get a grip on the Zbrush BPR renderer. Its pretty slick how easy it makes rendering a sculpt compared to blender. it would take alot longer to set this up.

Looks sick, thouhg his torso is perhaps twisted just a bit too much. Abbs make it more noticeable when placed side by side with the reference.
Impressive sculpt though.

Ahh thank you! yeah i think i got overzealous in pushing the pose lol. i attempted to get a little more energy in there than the concept but yea i'll have to look more into how abs work in motion <3 it was a tricky one

Thank u so much! i appreciate the encouragement <3 i have a loooot i wanna learn and improve on still though lol. working hard! :coffee:

17 days later

So you sculpted this with a sphere? that's impressive. Nice work on the armor pieces.

yep! no base mesh. A sculptor i look upto strongly believes that sculpting everything bespoke and from scratch is the best way to learn especially as a beginner sculptor. I wanna get good too so thats how i roll for now lol.

Sculpt Game Character [Semi-Real Attempt] : Kyaree the Fox Assassin

Hello! Here's a progress shot of what i'm currently working on. I will continue my upper body studies soon. But i did this bust for my CGMA Zbrush class. If i'm able to i would like to push myself again to make this into a full character. This is a difficult task though that is easy to get lost in so.... we'll see how it goes. I have some instructors whom i can ask questions of though so maybe i'll get somewhere lol.

I was inspired by an anime vtuber design to attempt a Fox Assassin Girl. I wanted to elevate the design to a semi-real style like resident evil, possibly even as far as hitman. But thats a super tall order so i'm ready to fail at it haha. Gotta be bad to get good ya know.

I feel like my sense of anatomy is getting just a little stronger. gotta keep pushing.

Damn dude this is all really good looking stuff. Cool how you can adapt the assignments to practice 3d more. Keep it up! :+1:

That's coming along great! I thought it was a catgirl or a bat girl from the discord post, didn't occur to me it was a fox girl xD

Looking forward to see more!

lol yea i hadnt reff'd any fox stuff yet so totally valid observation lmao. I found some pics of fox ears online though that really helped me dial in the shapes. i still need work on emulating fur in clay though.

Sculpting from scratch sounds interesting.

I'm guessing fox, bat, or cat ears seem similar.

Sculpt Upper Body Focus 3/5 : DMC5 Dante

Hello there! spent the week working on a sculpt of Dante's face and studying some upper body anatomy. Really put some work into trying to figure out the complexity that is back anat lol. I'll make another render soon (probably) to show off his abs, i think i'm gonna try to make some of his coat and sword too.

Man your sculpting is next level mate. Just wondering here but shouldn't the teres major slip under the latissimus dorsi? Also, It looks like the latissimus is attaching onto the tips of the trapezius rather than the trapezius inserting as thin (practically tendon sheets or aponeurosis) into the spine with the latissimus wrapping closely and then spreading thin into the spine as well. As the latissimus goes down I think rather than having such a deep depression is kinda just fades or thins out at the lines where we notice the erector spinae more

I may be wrong but those would be my observations - take with a grain of salt and please correct me if I'm wrong XD

cheers!

Damn that looks good bro. Even the lips have a fine texture to it, that's some crazy attention to detail. I had to look up a bit on what @snakker said. It does seem like the teres slides into the latissimus

Then again, in really buff guys it seems the teres bulges so much it seems to outright be out of the latissimus

I do think it should be more to the right if I get picky though, I think the reason it's more to the left in the reference you posted is because that guy is pushing his arms back, which makes it look like it closer to the arm than it is.

On the other hand, I do think the latissimus are fine, as they do follow a line almost like following the traps. In leaner guys I do agree they would fade into the erector spinae, like the image below, but in really buff guys they bulge so much it looks like they form a line with the traps.

If there was anything else I could add, I just think he could buff up those pectorals xD

Oy, as usual don't let this take away from the amazing work there. Dante is looking mighty fine!

i think that makes alot of sense! i honestly was just trying to match the buff guy ref lol my brain was getting overwhelmed with all the buff muscle interactions haha but i'll def look into your points more. A pro artist i showed this too told me i needed to get better ref of live people rather than relying so hard on anatomy for sculptors. So i'l have to do that more. Some feedback i got was also to reduce the pronunciation of the creases between the back muscles so i think thats pretty inline with what your suggesting

thank you for the feedback! i appreciate the pickyness, sometimes i just give up and get into a just make it look like the ref mode lmao. but ill think harder about that stuff. it does seem to me that theres a big difference in muscle forms between buff guys and regular joes. so i'll just have to get better ref to learn more about those issues.

WIP : Animal Crossing Isabelle

Hello~ ! haven't posted in a little while but i've been a working on art XD. lol i actually took a whole class on learning Maya since my last post lol. Currently im working a lil on making a cute game version of Izzy from AC inspired by some art by Yagi the Goat. i'm practicing walking through the pipeline. Rn im in the low poly stage, optimizing her so i can get to making her textures.. Got a couple little edits [working the hair/ making 2 more items] but im liking the direction this lil project is going.

also not sure if anyone else has this issue. my web browser is opera, but whenever i login into cubebrush i have to reset my password. like the sign in buttons doesnt work, i enter the info that i know is right but it just doesnt do anything unless i reset my password.

noice!!

So yes, what i do to bypass that is you have to go to Cubebrush Marketplace (click the cubebrush logo)

then on the right hand corner there is a Sign UP button - NOT Sign in. Sign in doesnt work there for some reason

Then at the bottom click sign in

THEN log in...

You are then brought to your cubebrush MARKET profile..

Click your avatar > Forum Profile

Then click on Topics

Usually at this point if you've bookmarked the general Art school forum you should be able to click on that and it'd recognized that you are logged in if you wanna look at fellow forum/class member's posts
hope this helps XD messed around and found that this consistently works simply cuz the first time it happened i was like im way too lazy to change my pw every time this happens lol and i never log out

Yo, Isabelle looks great man. Yagi the Goat stuff reminds me of Sonic the Hedgehog, more specifically the classic Saturda morning cartoon. Loved that stuff when I was a kid.

I've seen part of your progress on Discord, though it's tought to keep up on Discord, feels like some sections move every 10 minutes while others barely move in weeks. Hard to follow up with everything going there so I'll usually stick to the term I'm working on plus a few select threads. Glad you had a good time at the beach!

It really takes some dedication to do a piece like this, many people will just take a glance and think it looks cool, but I see you took the care to build most pieces individually with great care, like the phone or bag (maybe a 3DS soon? xD). The sheer effort that goes into building all this is impressive.

You're really getting better at thse organic volumes (legs, hands, face), and the shirt looks a lot better after the redesign!

As for the sign in thing, as @mitsuki-youko said, it seems to be a thing with the site. I use mainly Chrome, but just the same to get around "signing in" I just click on the "forums" link up top and that will somehow magically log me in. Must be something with cookies. I saw someone opened a thread about it on the help section but I don't think anything came from it other that to keep using the workaround.

thank you so much~ ! haha yea i do the same thing discord is pretty messy. i really like this forum as my clean summarized version of my progress. and plus its public so i can link it to anyone interested.

And yea she still needs alot of work im like half way with her but im learning alot! i think my full pace for a whole game character is probably 2 months to account for revisions and problem solving. i've got a lot of projects lined up for this year though so super excited. i think after izzy i will be learning more into ladies/ mecha. cute / cartoony stuff just isnt my fav tbh :joy: but theres alot to learn trying to do it

Nice work on the sculpture of Isabelle.
So You have two more months for revisions? Good luck.
Wait, There's a discord? For cube brush?

Yes! Join us in discord if you feel like it. It's honestly a bit overwhelming at first, and I prefer the forums as I can read and check stuff at my own pace, but it's still fun to chat, join the community and have direct contact with other folks in the community. Some of us have blogs there where we'll post WIPs and other stuff more frequently (like dandylion3d here xD)

Isabelle looks amazing! all those corrections done in the process where worth it, great work!

thanks dacero~!

yea i learned that its quite important to factor revisions into your timeline to get a little boost to the polish. Originally i thought it would take about 1 month to finish this project but i underestimated exactly how much work goes into the optimization of the geometry before the texturing phase.

but overall i learned a ton! i think this was a great first project and helped me understand the process involved in making a game char. now i just gotta get more reps in over time.

And I think that's what's more important for now, to learn from what actually goes into all this. It's one thing to plan and schedule it, and another to actually do it. Once you do it, you bump into all these unexpected things, learn, and do it even better next time. It's why I'm more of a fan of iteration than perfection.

It looks really great man, I can only imagine how many hours in effort it translates into.

That is amazing. I like the texture of Isabelle's coat and hair. Keep up the good work.

Hello~!! Posting up what i worked on last week. I crashed through a bunch of anatomy sculpt studies in Zbrush to wrap up my T4 work.

Alot of these characters are based on sketches from Sensei Marc's Fantasy Body type video but i did a couple OCs too.

Bod Type: monke infusion

REF:

Bod Type: Elf Lady

REF:

Bod Type: Devil Predator

REF:

Half-Slime Girl OC:

Dad Birb OC:

Starting up T5 this week~! excited to learn about some creature stuff.

These are impressive. The anatomy of the sculpture is amazing. I think you need to work on the feet of the slime girl.
The bird dad reminds me of Hooty and King's dad from Owl House. Was that the inspiration?
