Hey everyone,

I'm David and this is the official start of my artistic journey.

I work as a web developer now, and I want to get some artistic skills to be better at self-expression. I was always amazed how cool and beautiful artworks can be made digitally and I always wished that I was talented enough to be able to make similar pieces.

Since then I learned a lot about talent (now I sort of think it's a myth) and I was lucky enough to be able to purchase an iPad, so I didn't want to wait anymore.

I'm here to learn, having fun, making friendships and document my progress.

Progress report

Background: I've learned and used Photoshop about 8-10 years ago on a desktop, only for basic image manipulation and design works, without any artistic foundations.

I've bought my iPad recently and I started with a tutorial to learn Procreate, here are some milestones (it's just a copy-by-observing type of work):

Then I joined Art School and started to practice the important parts.
I started with the nude figure drawing lesson.

I tried to do some 30s and 1m gestures:

As I felt those terrible I've taken the advice from Discord to not measure the time until I get at least a basic understanding how gestures work. Timeless practice:

Ooo, I remember seeing it on Discord! I think that's a good approach. Once you feel completely comfortable doing gestures at your own pace, I'd say start adding a little challenge. 5-10 minutes, once you're comfortable with that then 2 minutes, then 1 minute, then 45-30 seconds. Adding incremental challenges to keep you improving, without making it too difficult is the way to go! All of these are good practices, keep it up! : )

I'm still at the learning phase of gestures, but I think I'll start to practice them with time limits in the next week.

I started incorporating other basic exercises, like cylinders and improving my line work (by doing the Drawabox lessons):

Next I'll do the Photoshop lesson, continue the basic exercises and then move on to Term 2.

I love to see all this practice! Really nice job! Keep slamming this practice especially the cylinder practice. The better you are at the cylinder practice and drawing elipses the easier term two will be. Term two in my opinion has been the absolute hardest term in the program. Keep pumping those term one assigmnents to make it easier on yourself. Also with the gestures don't be afraid to increase your time limit if you are not able to get what you want out of them with lower time. Fantastic job! Keep up the good work.

Time for another update!
I casually continued the gesture/figure practice in the mornings when I could, and also found some time to finish the perspective and figure measurement assignments (this latter is kinda lame ).

I think I'm done with what I had to do in Term 1, so I'm moving to Term 2 now. 🎉
