ah, thanks, @cedricgo!

another update on this piece, it slowly moves towards the end. I am very confused by metals, I know super new and polished ones will reflect light etc..
i need to google for some master paintings that have metals in it.. for some reason i have a hard time understanding it :tired_face:

I did some studies about metals... i think this looks somewhat more metal-like haha :>
rn im seeing that the trees are pretty flat... and im thinking to add tiny details like some ring on her fingers and maybe some low hanging necklace...will see ;>

This is really progressing nicely

I agree with malcom, it's coming along very well. I love the hands!

Seems like it will be a nice challenge for you with all the different types of materials present in this. I feel like it's one of those piece that once you're done, you'll have leveled up as an artist, or at least you will have learned a lot.

@malcom thanks :blush:
aaand
@cedricgo thanks!

It is a challenge. I am a bit afraid of this piece because it feels like I wont be able to make another one like this haha xD
But i guess the more i practice the better i get :3

I am not entirely sure what causes the style switch in my head. Perhaps the amount of time i am willing to spend on the piece. Maybe the mood? Maybe the fact that i've always been doing more cartoony things and with previous piece I was trying to explore a bit more classical paintings with a hint of stylezation?
If you ever had the same experience, please share your story. If you have any advices - i would happily receive them.

I dont think i will finish previous piece any time soon as im going away for a few days. Im planning to take a sketchbook with me and if i will have a chance i will draw things and stuff :smile:

I think I understand the realism vs cartoony "trouble" (it is not really a problem) but I grew up loving Joe Mad art (still do) and I find his influence in many artist like L D Austin and many others. They all have a very heavy mixture of realism and stylization that makes that kind of art so appealing to me, so the "problem", I think, is where to push forms and where to keep it more close to reallity. Idk if this is of any help, but I want to share that thougths.

ye, thanks for sharing :>
i think it is just a question of finding the perfect balance between both :smiley:

well In my head when i have an a idea i go for it then the next and at the end the amount of ideas point to certain style preference.

For me, the style that I use for a piece depends on what I'm drawing. A comic page is going to be a lot simpler than a character illustration which will be simpler than a still life painting. Over the years I've just developed a slightly way of working for each.

Also, your blog is awesome. I really like that last piece, the lighting is really great

This week im attending one course of 3ds max basic stuff. I never did 3d in my life so this is indeed a very interesting experience :smiley:
My head hurts from thinking differently haha

little progress on this one

It is really fascinating to see how fast you learn ^^ great work !

@toutydroid thanks! :smiley:

and i think this is final result so far from this course. I might do something else in 3ds max if i have some time ;D

That is so cute =] I love it!

I finally upgraded my pc a little bit. Got new graphics card with more memory and more ram. Now my workflow goes smoother when i work on large canvases and overall my pc work better now.
I am able to go back to this piece now and hopefully finish it.
I've changed my composition and size of this canvas.
I keep changing some things as initially I didn't plan this painting to be so huge and I didnt have any idea in my head for it that is why it takes so long.
I think in the future I will try to come up with a short plan of what I gonna draw and spend more time on composition first as it much easier to tweak all the little things at the sketch stage. So this is gonna be my last piece that I go into with no plan.

Trying to add more and break shapes as Marc to]ld me to do.. I dont really know what im doing haha
I will fix overly dark spots later on when I have time..

So far so good. Love the colors as well. Do think this newer version is working a lot better than the previous version. To me I feel you need to just refine things now. Add some nice clouds and you should be good to go Keep up the good work.
