I had a big break. I didn't paint because I left my work a week ago and I felt a bit unusual because of it.
It is nice to have more free time but it is also a huge responsibility to have everything under control and not start procrastinating. (I might give myself 13th and 14th as last two days of chilling because it's my bday tomorrow )

Either way I decided to go back to this piece again to see what I could possibly do to it and I doubt that I will finish it anytime soon and I think i will keep it as a piece that I can go back to and just keep painting and painting.
I stared at it for a bit yesterday and i decided to cover her feet a bit more. She is blind now but she has this glowy butterfly that gives her directions. Maybe I'll change this butterfly mb I won't. I will see.

I've also came up with an idea for my personal project like a month ago (art school related) and now I need to sit down and start fleshing it out.
It is funny how things can just pop up in your brain when you dont expect them to and I am very glad that I always carry a sketchbook with me so I was able to do some doodles for my idea.

Hopefully I won't stray from my path now.

I attended a shibari themed drawing session yesterday.
This whole thing was going for 3 hours, 45 min per session and the last hour was too much for me as I lost my concentration and my hand was aching so last two poses were really hard to draw even though they were relatively easy in terms of gesture

pencil/sketchbook.

I'm not great with pencil work but if you have any advice on how I can improve my gesture drawing or my pencil work, please let me know

I think you're doing good. Your figures have necks, so that's already better than some of my gestures Also the proportions generally looks good and I think you've captured the poses well.

Honestly, the only thing I could maybe see you trying to improve is drawing with less lines, if that makes sense. By that I mean not going over the same line multiple times and also trying to draw longer lines in a single stroke instead of doing multiple smaller ones. But that will probably come naturally as you do more

Beyond that though, nice job! I really like them.

I've been dealing with my depression strikes lately that is why I produce less artwork and I feel less enthusiastic.
Either way here's my participation in Mermay. I might change this gesture of his hand as this one expresses the wrong thing.. like "oh dear, here we go again.. harpoon.."
Or maybe it is fine?

I'm no doctor but with the depression thing, I think you should take a break and just hang out with friends and family and reset yourself.

This is a good start. I would agree with working on the gesture more though.

Like Malcom said, maybe just taking things a bit easier for some time might help. Or just doing other things that you like. I know when something like that strikes me I work on music and eventually I just naturally start drawing again eventually.

About the drawing, I agree about reworking the gesture a bit, and maybe the facial expression too. He looks a bit too chill for having a harpoon in his shoulder But maybe you actually want that and do a more funny piece.

Well, I am just trying to set some kind of routine that helps me get in a right state of mind for work coz I'm a bit messed up ever since I quit my job.
I've recently switched from listening music in my headphones to listening it with my speakers, as when I paint some music just gets too annoying and speakers are further from my ears so it is easier now. And I'm getting back on track slowly.

And yes-yes I'm thinking to maintain this funny gesture and the face. I want it to be a bit like those classical paintings where people have ambiguous expressions haha

Since I've started this painting in greyscale and i tried to use gradient maps and It just ended up being not as i wanted it to be in terms of colours I had to seek a different approach. And It just seemed too time consuming to do a paintover on top of gradient maps

I decided to go back in with a lineart and then do some colouring by selecting different planes of my picture and having them at different layers for now.

I am still figuring the stuff out. Never like the hands -> need to search for references.
(if you by any chance have a reference of the hand from this angles that i have, pls hlep )

and now that im posting it here i see that chest muscles are a bit too high and at a wrong angle

Hopefully I will finish this piece soon.
