She’s actually going to be resting in the palm of the robot! I just haven’t gotten to articulating the fingers yet.
I do kind of like your suggestion about her head though! I’ll try some variations with it, along with some other compositional techniques to try to keep the eye circulating around the canvas. i was aiming for a bit of a “looking off at the approaching army” kind of feel for her.

Okay! here are some updates!
I tried @mdashow ‘s advice about the head, and i do kind of like that it almost looks as if she’s surveying the area with her robot. Also i took the time to add a pointier chin to the bot to make it an arrow to guide you to her face. I also kept my original composition just for opinions and whatnot.

laying down a “mood” for the future colors. I’m thinking of an icy sunrise, idk why. just a cold and silent mood with the potential for an all out battle to break out at any moment.

I figured i’d throw in a close up of her facial detail just for the heck of it. Also, a little bit of narrative into the picture/ and the reason her attention is elsewhere. Snow! Winter is the darkest time of year, Symbolized by something light.

Snow symbolizes the peace she wants.

Color scheme and a tad more sculpting of the mech. I wonder if having her feet be overlapped by the palm of the robot would count against the “show 80%” rule? i’m still posing the legs to make her look like she is making physical contact with the bot.

okay, so I tried adjusting her perspective to make it look like we’re looking up at her.I’m still playing with the jaw to get it to look right, the underside of the chin is a tricky area for simple styles.
So what do you guys think? old, or new? (disregarding detail/completion)(I know the new one looks like her hands are backwards but thats because i’m trying to position her hands in perspective. sweat)

I like your new one better. About the values, they are good overall but I think you need to make some areas darker such as the right side of your character (our right).

While my pencil charges, i’m going to post a WIP of my concept sheet. One, To test to see if my current file size/resolution will upload correctly, (in 2048*2048) and it’ll give me time to fix it/figure out what the perfect resolution is to keep it from getting re-sized. and two, because i’m bored.

My pencil charged! but Now it’s dead! Cause i’m still doing Values! A wise man once said “it might not be realistic, but our eyeballs love that sh*t.”
Anyway, more progress, and instead of making her the lightest object, i decided to put more contrast into her, and I might ditch the scarf to show off her neck mechanics, or maybe i’ll just have the scarf but tilt it a little to show them off still.

This is just a test to see how well my BW to color conversion is. So far, Kinda EHH, Not to mention my art program is quite limiting, so once i finish all the black and white rendering, i can chop my number of layers to do better hue variations. but so far having good values proves useful for making the color look better, even at such a choppy stage. At least in my opinion

More stuffs! more detail in her legs, but also a few composition variants.
First one with a faded city in the BG, the second one is the same, but with more contrast, and the last one is the composition mirrored to read left to right.

I kind of want to get rid of her flipped up visor, and give her some other direct relation to her robot, because it helps her face stand out when it’s not cast in the shadow of her visor, although i might keep it, who knows *shrug

So i noticed something. My character looks dangerously similar to aigis from persona 3, so to avoid that awkward similarity, i might change a few aspects of her design, namely the decorative bits on her thighs. She doesn’t have color yet, so i’m probably not going to do a white gold color scheme either. but I do have something in mind...

you guys i’m losing my mind with this sunglasses thing I might have to find a way to make it work because, It’s growing on me. Kind of like a rash. but. It’s growing on me.
