I'm almost at the end of this retopo marathon. Character is retopped and UVd but have not done hair cards for his helmet and fur shawl yet. That is a whooole other beast. He's at about 74k poly at the moment after hair cards that will go up quite a bit.

In the shots here you can see the model with wireframe and without. Baked shots to come. And then so much more detail to be added after that.

When I bake out my textures (in Substance Painter) I explode the model out to stop any cross contamination. I thought the mouth parts looked pretty amazing on their own so I took some glamour shots.
Textures are just popped on and in no way final.

First baking pass completed. The model is at about 74k without hair cards at the moment. I've pulled it into substance painter now and will start blocking out textures after I get the fur and fringe finished.

Also his shiny feet are driving me crazy lol. Cranked a value too far in iray and now I have to look at this shot forever.

Hair Cards! My first time ever working with these things and I'm so glad I had the time finally to sit down and work this out. They're not perfect but I'm happy with how they look in my quick Marmoset preview. I used GMH2 and photoshop to make the maps then Hair Grabber 2 a Maya plugin to place em. Time consuming stuff people.

First pic is a glam shot in Maya of what this geo looks like untextured. Just a dogs breakfast of planes right there.

I've made a terrible mistake - in making a really awfully good mistake.

When posing my model in Maya I imported my base colour just to make sure everything was looking a-ok. The face material imported with a transparency - and oh my lanta you guys I reaallly want to re-do the face now! With his teeth all exposed like that. He's so wonderful and hideous!

I am not re-doing the face. but ugh. UGH.
