I'd love some critique on this piece, i'm not sensitive so just throw it all on me!

Interesting work you have done. I would recommend to refine the edges, I think that would make the piece look more sharp and crisp. Another thing that caught my attention was that some objects need more shadows, for example the eyes. It looks like they have been pasted on the face so they would need a bit more depth. The edges of the character need some cleaning up and fine tuning, it sorta looks like you went in with the lasso tool and cut the character out that way without cleaning up.

Maybe add in darker shadows like @puekkers said but otherwise its a very interesting piece. I love the style.

like puekkers and kurisil already said the edges need a bit of work/refining. Also don't forget to set a focus point because my eyes don't really know where to focus first, it also gives you some depth work with different values, cubebrush (Marc) has very informativ youtube videos about values and focus

It's hard to tell what material the headpiece is supposed to be, since it's just soft blended and has weird edges. The part closest to the head looks good, the part above that not so much. The neck reads as hollow to me, like, hollow and thin, almost like it was made of aluminum foil. I like the face, it has an interesting shape and features, but is that a plate that it's resting on? It seems like the head is spilling out down under the plate. Unless that's his hand. But the other hand is wearing a glove( or at least, has different colors), so the thing under the plate doesn't read as a hand, since it has such a similar color to the head.

The background value is okay, but it has a very similar hue to the rest of the image, sort of negating the contrast you could have had.

All of this is of course subjective, and I'm not a professional.

Hey, new to the critique thing, but here's my two cents. First off, nice work, and way to be thinking about lighting at this stage. I also think you've got some compositional elements working, higher contrast on the neck and face, complimentary colors on the eyelids. The straight line of the hand. The value comp could be improved, but I'm just learning about that.

Ditto to what people said about the edges, and silhouettes. Now I'm not sure if you meant to have a spotlight, but I think the lighting/ form consistency could be improved. The hat needs to have a definite terminator, core shadow, then bounce light. I like the ridges, but make sure not to sacrifice the overall form of the hat for them. Occlusion shadows could be placed in a few more spots. If you were going for a near spotlight, then the value comp could be greatly improved, but you'd need to be very specific about where the light is, and where it's hitting the forms for it to work. Again overall really nice job and description of forms. Cool subject matter too!
