Gestures are a perfect warmup. If you're ever feeling saucy try making the ribcage and pelvis out of boxes. For me it helps a lot with the perspective and which direction the parts are facing in regards to twists and bends. I understand everyone has their own preferred skeleton and you feel its not for you though. 
The muscle study's legs are very large in comparison to the rest of the body. Term 1 has a proportion map for males and females, it might help to check it out.
Unless this is a worm's eye view, then I can see why the legs are larger. If that's the case a 3-point perspective box around the figure should help as a guide.
Those texture studies are killer! I really like the wood and iron ones.
