Hello everyone, I'm Gabriel a 21 years old from Brazil. I always tought I was more of a 3D artist (hard surface) until I decided to start to learn digital sculpt as well. As I searched for the basics I saw a lot of people saying how useful would it be to know how to drawn first...

I then started to (very randomically) learn the basics of drawing. What I didn't expect was that I ended up enjoying drawing way more than actually modeling, so here I am.

By the way I actually started the Art school about 3 weeks ago but as I downloaded all the 1 Term's files I forgot to start a new Topic and am even a little bit lost about how to use it (Is there a way to follow another thread?)

Here's what I already did

Ps: Is this model used only for adults? How do I adapt to a child or a Dwarf?

Welcome to the forum! for the question about threads you get notified when people mention you or reply to your comment on other posts on different topics. the topic you check out till the end of the feed will have a yellow number indicating that someone posted something new so that's how you "follow" topics on the forum.

That model is only used for adults but on how to adopting to children or dwarfs look for how many heads tall each one is and try to experiment with proportions until it looks right. I don't think Marc talks about child proportions but I may be wrong. Nice practice so far cna't wait to see what you make in the future.

Remember that you also learned how to make measurements, so, if you want to adapt to a Child or a Dwarf, you can always search for some reference in the proportions that you like, and see by yourself how the artist tackled it.

Daily challenge failed in the first day as my internet decided not to work anymore ...

well, here's what I did Yesterday

I refined a bit the room in the Clock Tower ... Well, it's not a Clock tower anymore .

I followed a more steampunk idea
btw how do I measure the objects size? For the biggest ones I'm doing a box around it (like the table or my (almost similar) r2d2 but the random props (like the hatchet on the pipe) I have no idea of the right proportions, is there a good way to measure or is just experience?

I'm getting further and further away from may daily posts goal as my graphic board decided by itself that it needed vacations so I had to pause this last week... I hope this time I'm able to proceed more smoothly

Thanks! I was initially trying to draw a lot of connected gears but the perspective got all messed up . I'm glad I changed though

Try to focus on using less lines in your drawings, and using the 'ghosting' method for drawing

I'm trying to.. but I usually just am too lazy to draw a lineart on top of the sketch
Just did a quick search about the 'ghosting' method .. it's something like what we do in the beginning of the first term?

I noticed that I was having a hard time to enter into 'drawing mode' and I figured it was probably because since I fixed my computer I stopped with 'gesture drawing'... so i'll start with GD on a daily basis again.

good gesture but I would recommend trying to use fewer lines and having more line confidence when you do your gesture drawing so like for example if you are drawing the curve of a leg you would draw a single line instead of doing scratchy/hairy lines to get the complete curve but everything else looks good. I also wanted to comment on your box cover because it seems to not be in the right perspective based on how flat the front plane looks it should be more angled in a 2 point perspective set up.

I probably won't be able to improve my lines in GD for now, as I tend to do these hairy lines when trying to correctly adjust the size of the limbs as to not get out of proportion .
I didn't even think about using perspective ( yeah kinda dumb since I just finalized perspective class )

Great shadows and line control on those last two! If you're struggling to get into drawing, something Bobby Chiu does + recommends is to just sit and sketch whatever is in your head, for 10mins at least to get the hand warmed up.

well a way to improve them is just getting used to doing on stroke and seeing where you make mistake by comparing it to your ref that way you can still improve line confidence while making it a habit to check the limb length correctly
