I need advice on my painting. I'm a self taught artist and started at 2022

This is fanart of Alyss from Tower of fantasy

I think my main problem is saturation. Thing is, when I paint on my wacom
cintique, everything looks very saturated, but when I look at the
painting on regular screen it doesn't look the same. It looks weak, weak
of colors.Is there any way to make sure that the painting is saturated enough? I think I have this
problem in most of my paintings because everything looks way more
saturated on my wacom tablet.

Hi @Mogwai_Z, my observations are regarding the construction of the body. First; I think the body is too straight and lacks a certain dynamism, maybe you can work a little more to get a good gesture so that your drawing has more fluidity. Second, it seems to me that the elements of the face are not very well positioned, the mouth is too low, for example; I know that the anime-style face is more focused on the eyes, but you could also work on improving the nose. You might need to look up how to calibrate your tablet color wise.

Hello there. I think one of the things that can help a lot here is to simplify the shape design. If you notice you are mixing a completely different shape language on the shoes with super sharp edgest and pointy things, cyberpunk style mech lines on the body with elegant rounded contour lines and very fairy tale highly detailed hair and butterfly wings. I think any of the three on their own would work better than mixing and matching all three in the same figure unless there was a strong or very subtle struggle between the two (something very purposeful)

Edit: also noticed your hair is lost on the silhouette, I tecommend making it contrast more and making it overlap to make it readable even if the entire figure was only silhouette, avoiding tangents

Yeah I've noticed that as well but was too into the painting when I
noticed the leg. I tried to change it, it was worse before but oh well..
I
tried to make the face being slightly looked from above perspective
wise thus the mouth was abit lower than usual...I guess I should've made
it more clear.

Oh...I think I understand what you mean, I used the straight liner on the shoes perhaps thats why? Also as its a fanart, the character itself IS kinda cyberpunky so she does have thosetype of shoes..tho in the original, her color palette is cooler, and I changed it slightly and added warmer colors to make it look more interesting, perhaps that's why the fairy tale vibe.I still don't have a style yet so i'm subconsciously doing stuff that I think may look good, without thinking too much about it. I'm also quite afraid of shading because I am still learning so I prefer using round brush, and avoiding using hard brush shading, which I know is supposed to be a mix of both...
And yeah, you're right about the hair being lost in the silhouette, I felt something was being off there...Thanks so much for the tips and replying!

My pleasure! I'm still learning a lot but feel giving critique with the theory I am learning helps others (hopefully) and helps me cement my knowledge and try to apply it.

I wouldn't get too caught up with style, I'm confident with practice and critique everyone kind of develops one eventually, but I think it's better to be style and medium agnostic. I am a big fan of star wars, and when you look into how they made those movies, apart from being mind blown, you can see how all the artists have to share this incredibly complex yet at the same time very intuitive idea of design language that I guess you could call a style itself. So I think ultimately there's no right or wrong in art, but you should keep an open mind about everything

I get what you mean! When I studied at the uni (not art tho, it was animal science), I was telling my bf some of the new stuff I learned, it helped me memorize all the things I learned and organize it in my head. (
And yes I agree, tbh I don't think about style, right now I'm just trying to learn and I also don't want to get stuck just on one genre (anime) so right now I'm working on a new painting that doesn't involve anime girls xD I feel like I'm treading on a new territory, I'\m kinda scared but also curious to know how it'll turn out for me. I imagine it clear in my head but pulling it off the way I want would be way more difficult.
Oh I'm not a huge star wars fan but I really loved Mandalorian and there is also another spin off of the star wars I watched, forgot its name...that I also liked. waiting for the new seasons!
