Heading to gym for today, just flipped horizontal and realized its tilting! oh well

Recently my parents sent me home with a ton of old stuff and among my old sketchbooks I found this drawing i did as a kid!

I thought I'd be fun to do a character based off this drawing so I've started making this protagonist sword guy

Took Saturday off to go to summer fair! It was a lot of fun with good beer and food, but now it's back to work! Turnaround is getting solid, starting the the final character render

Taking my time with the render, planning the lighting, refining the pose. Also warmups! I'm going to be setting aside time everyday to fit in gesture drawing as part of a balanced artist diet.

Sorry for not updating yesterday, no excuse other than I forgot too. When I complete this character I will be posting a gif process as well.

I should probably start using the Navigator, keep catching things right before i post :pensive:

Software Research, Getting a good Workflow going

I did a bit of research this morning on including or switching over too, other 2d programs. Krita has a great mirror tool which I used for this characters turnaround, but I spent no joke hours fiddling with setting and massaging to get passable line quality. Paint Tool Sai on the other hand has a tool basically provides rigged vector lines so line quality can be perfect and clear, but lacks the mirror functionality.

In other news Lazy Nazumi creator is now employed at Adobe, so maybe we will have some good perspective functionality in photoshop soon?

Whew got a lot done today, started throwing down those gradient maps and such today. I plan to inject more lighting in and refine the fire effects but only once everything is firmed up. Next post might be Monday since I will be busy this weekend.

It's looking really nice so far! I'm looking forward to see the final result

Monday Update! Just got back from celebrating my Mom's birthday and I wanted to makeup for lost time. I'd like to say working on this face was a breeze, but I still have much to learn about rendering stylized faces.

Also I'm in the summer mood! Doing doodles in PaintTool Sai, their pen tool + lineart layers are pretty cool, I've been reading some tuts and I might try pushing this to finish in a cel shaded, linear fashion. I enjoy painting but I'd like to try an alternative style, especially if it's faster.
