Self Reflection Note
I have been trying to follow and draw along with the third anatomy class, but it's really not working out well. I can't really visualize how to draw the muscles of the arms. After hours of struggling to understand the video, I've come to the conclusion that I need to preview and study by myself first.
Advice to those reading
For those of you who are struggling with the anatomy lessons like me, I advise you to study all of the material covered in the class first by yourself. Previewing material before any type of class is not a foreign concept, but most people don't do it. Look up images online on Pinterest or Google and do the following:
- Study up on where each muscle originates and inserts.
- Search for the general shape of the muscle(s).
- Research how other artists have learned to simplify them.
I recommend that you also draw the references you study instead of just looking at them, but if you don't have the time, try to observe and retain as much information as possible.
After doing all that then go back to Marc's anatomy videos and everything will become a lot more clear on why he's making each decision and you'll get way more out of the class than just going into it blind.
