Finally got myself a Wacom graphics tablet, and after redoing previous assignments, I'm pleased to report it's much better than the old Veikk tablet I used before - I don't need to constantly look up to my monitor any longer now. Anyways! On to...

TERM 1, WEEK 4, Pen Control Practice (exercises 1-5) + Pespective 1 assignments 1 & 2 (don't mind the typos regarding 1/2-point perspectives)
I had to redo assignment 1 because while I was re-checking the results yesterday, I found that I missed some convergence lines. I probably should've done exercises 6-10 of the top 10 daily exercises as well, but again, I'm not confident in my skills yet - exercise 5 is as far as I can do at the moment.

Good to see you are still working!
Unsolicited Advice: For copying/studying other people's work, you might want to try using a grid. On a layer above the image, draw out a grid of squares. Save a copy of that file, then add a solid white layer and hide the image. That way you have an image the same size as the original with identical grids on both. Then you go square by square and copy what you see. I learned that in art class back in high school and has been helpful when I'm trying to replicate something.

TERM 1, WEEK 5, Nude Figure assignments 4 and 7 + Perspective 1 assignment 2 (simple structures)

Used measurement tools for both nude figure assignments. #4 is easy, but #7... although I was eventually able to match the figures with the references, I still haven't fully understood how to use 'em (especially measuring relationships and important lines - accidentally deleted the layer containing the halfway point, and I only realized AFTER I closed the file, whoops; at least negative spaces are easier to use). If you guys know how a simpler way to do this, please let me know (or at least provide an explanation to help me understand better)

Tried drawing a cylinder in 2-point perspective but it didn't go so well.

TERM 1, WEEK 4, Daily Pen Control Practice (exercises 6-9) + WEEK 5, Daily Nude Figure assignment 6 (2 minutes)

Finally got around to doing exercises 6-9 - drawing the ribbons is certainly the toughest part. Also, doing gesture drawing for 2 minutes... at first I thought I didn't do them well enough, but once I compared the results to my 30 seconds and 1 minute drawings, I realized the progress I'm making (even if it's small - it's been months since I started but I'm still doing Term 1).

Anyways, it's time for me to move on to week 6 assignments (and also do week 3/5's copying assignment)...

TERM 1, WEEK 5, Character Drawing Study + WEEK 6, Perspective 1 assignment 3 and Primitive Drawings Exercise 1 + WEEK 8, Perspective 1 assignment 4

Hello, everyone! Long time no see (and sorry for taking so long to update). I wanted to finish Term 1 in December or earlier, but unfortunately I wasn't able to do so because my house became too noisy for me to study. I also realized that my work schedule is all over the place (sometimes really long, sometimes too short)... NOT conducive at all. But now that it's the new year, I can finally continue.

  • Character Drawing
I was confused about how to copy character drawings, but I gotta thank JimSt for the advice, and I also came across this video by Art of Monjirou - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9VVIvjck2QQ - both of these really cleared things up for me. Despite this I made multiple slip-ups that forced me to redo a few of them (stretching what should've taken 2-3 weeks into 4-5 weeks; I finished these before December BTW - again, my schedule was terrible at the time - but obviously wanted to do more before updating)

Characters in order:
1) Cagalli Yula Athha and 2) Lacus Clyne from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED (just gotta do 'em because of FREEDOM)
3) Miorine Rembran and 4) Suletta Mercury from Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury
5) Noa Izumi from Patlabor

I don't know if I'll copy 5 more characters since I may not have the time to do so (I wanna reach Term 2 ASAP, preferably by the end of this month/beginning of February), but if there is time, I'll give it a try.

  • Perspective 1 Assignment 3

Tried to give my bedroom a sci-fi feel to it... though the PS5 is too "contemporary", I'll admit. The Gunpla is pretty much based on one of my own (and isn't actually placed there IRL).

  • Primitive Drawings Exercise 1

The bottle, glass, and USB drives are referenced from my own stuff.

  • Perspective 1 Assignment 4

Visited Tokyo in September, including Ginza (among other areas in the city). Hence the building you see here is loosely based on the Seiko House/Wako Building.

TERM 1, WEEKS 6 AND 8, Environment Drawing Study and Daily Nude Figure assignment 6 (2+5 minutes)

I realized that my work schedule is too short, so I decided to wake up much earlier than usual (before sunrise; about 4:30 AM. I usually wake up at 6 AM) to draw for 90+ minutes and every day (except for Sunday). Not fun, but it pays off.

  • Environment Drawing:

Copied the following (in order):
1. Royal Capital from Frieren
2. Kivotos from Blue Archive
3. Greenhouse from Maria-sama ga Miteru

Reused Monjirou's method to do these. Kivotos took the longest time for me to copy - roughly more than a week (if I didn't change my schedule it would take even longer).

And just like with the character linearts, I probably won't have the time to copy more environments, but if I can, I will (don't count on it though).

  • Gesture Drawing:

Used different reference photos this time around. Rather than just doing 5-minute gesture drawings in one week and then 2-minute GD's in the next, I decided to do both simultaneously. It felt (and probably will continue to feel) quite satisfying, because I can immediately compare the two results.

Anyways! I suppose it's time for me to finally move on to Term 2 after a year of lagging progress...

TERM 2, WEEK 1 Assignments

  • Photoshop 2 Assignment A

Clip Studio Paint has a lot of features that share the same functionality as Photoshop, but also lacks a few equivalents - fortunately they can be substituted.

Title logo (Japanese title translates to "lonely giant monster/kaiju")

Monster
I found myself thinking of certain games by InnerSloth and certain tokusatsu characters (hence the title).

Game/DVD cover box
Used Monochrome Texture Pack Update to create the starry background.

* Self-Portrait

TERM 2, WEEK 2, Photoshop Assignment B, Anatomy 1 Assignments & Character Head Drawing Study

Characters in order:
1. Amuro Ray from Mobile Suit Gundam
2. Amate Yuzuriha/Machu from Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuux
3. Maya Ibuki from Evangelion
4. Miho Nishizumi from Girls und Panzer
5. Sayla Mass from Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ
6. Akane Tsunemori from PSYCHO-PASS

I can't copy 4 other heads yet due to a forthcoming family vacation, but I'll get back to doing them as soon as I get home.
