I'm a romance author and would like to publish a self-drawn comic. If Marc Brunet's course helps me to draw my book characters and present them in the books and on social media, then I'll be happy too.

(Edit March 2023: Including a Screenshot of my Self-Sim in this post.)

Welcome to the forums and hope you enjoy the course!

This is always my warm up. I have more problems with horizontal lines. So I practice them more. I present no showpiece. If I did, the lines would be straighter. This is just a small, unvarnished glimpse of my warm-up phase.

Welcome to the forums Norma! I look forward to seeing your progress! Dont sweat the gestures, everyone starts exactly where you are. Really great work so far and keep up the practice!

Thank you! :grinning: @Lockenheim
I'm in the forum for some time, mostly peeking once in a while and be in awe for the greate progress some students are doing (you as well). I mostly share my progress on the stream. See you there tomorrow. Hopefully the Internet connection on Marc's side is okay.

See you there! I love to see your progress and your socials! Keep it up!

Work in progress: I am trying to understand crosshatching and hatching comic-style.

Hey there welcome aboard! What term are you currently on? That portrait study is looking nice

Cheers

Thank you! @snakker I am not learning in a linear way. I am currently deepening my knowledge of the structure of the face, especially the eyes, nose and mouth.

A digital draft for a watercolor picture:

Practicing hatching and drawing braids (wip)

At the beginning I had this big problem with pen control. I would like to mention that I was a complete beginner at the time. I had never drawn before Marc's Art School except for a few doodles. As much as I practiced each day, my pen control didn't improve. I wanted to drop out of art school.

Then I rediscovered my love for calligraphy (through my bullet journaling) that I had in my childhood.

So I found a decorative font in Photoshop, wrote a long sentence with it, lowered the visibility to 30-40 percent, and traced the letters. I've been doing this two to three times a week for months now. My pen control has improved significantly as a result. Also, I enjoy this exercise.

I am a low energy person due to health issues. So I go through the art school program very slowly. But I'm more optimistic now and don't want to give up anymore.

An example how I practice pen control with calligraphy:
