Welcome to the community.... I think u already kinda found your own style.... stylizing is not bad at all, it means u focus on main forms rather than detailing out every little bit .... u could also break down the hair of the girl to even more simple form... for the dude mermaid maybe a less textured linework would make him pop up more from the background, just an idea
