I need to avoid shading too dark I work too long because I think it needs more and I overshadow everything. I finally work 'big to small' i take my time to do the big parts and then go to details not the other way as I used to do

I fell in love with characters I made for muscles studies so I decided to do concepts for them.
For now I call this lad blade dancer. Initially I wanted to give him red outfi but I only saw horde orc in him so I changed it to blue and it immediatly clicked; I knew what I wanted him to be. He is full of grace when fighting (blade dancer) and he is that kind, calm dude. I will play around colored version, change some things, add details etc.

I tried shading with low opacity hard brush this time ( I usually go with soft 'self-blending' ones). I think I will stick with this for a while. I have nice hard edges now.

Also I forgot this was supposed to be orc and made him quite soft so let it be half-orc...

I had to relax after trying to make clean lineart so I made head studies with soft pasels and color pencils

I wanted to give him bandages/ribbons on forearm but it was so messy that I decided not to.

I noticed that the first and third picture of your portraits, your characters' eyes are a little uneven. I like the colored pencil line art. I also like the duel wielding Orc.

This character really wants me to do lineart instead of going full painting. Well I like it. I don't lose form with lineart and process is cleaner. I think I am better at curly hairs now even though I relied a lot on reference in this piece. Also I managed to pose it from memory (arms look kind of weird) I will have to work on folds. Some backgroungs also would be nice I guess perspective assignment is calling...

I might come back to this piece later for some adjustments. Do you think I overdid the lights/effects? I wanted tavern fireplace vibe

Looking at it roughly, i really like your shading and lighting!
There are somethings i'd point out such as:
- the right (his right, our left) hand i think is a little smol..
- i think his right/our left shoulder might be a bit low based on where the other head and shoulder are. might wanna tilt the head down a bit
- from afar you cant rly see the details of his eyes so i'd recommend using more contrasting colors - on the color wheel pick the main color for ur eye. then move the color darker (like ever so slightly to the green or to the red, while the color remains in place, then drag the color down diagnolally on ur screen by about 1-1.5 cm so the contrast isnt too wide)

• i think putting some reflective highlights in the eye would look good too...

That gets me something like this, where you can still the eye detail you worked hard to put in, from afar

I'll do a rendering of my points later :3 since i dont have as much time rn but hope that makes sense!

I thought that hand was too big so I made it smaller now I see I should have left it as it was. I really should start leaving drawings for few days to see anatomy mistakes. I will try fixing it and will try with contrasts.

The hand should be the same size as the face pretty much. Hold your hand to your face and it should cover it. Measuring that hand it looks to be about half the width and maybe a knuckle short of the face..
What looks to me to be off is the anatomy of the hand. To me it looks like it's missing a thumb. Take your hand and hold it in the same position in front of a mirror. You will see the thumb either between the index and middle or just sticking out, unless you are purposefully squeezing your thumb down into your hand to hide it. It just looks like the wrist goes straight down to the index finger. That could also be where some of the width of the hand is missing.

I saw someone said something about the shoulder. The reason it's down is because of the railings. It isn't level. It must have a step down behind the character?
Otherwise if it was level the characters right shoulder would be higher just from putting all the weight on that side, kinda like how the hips work.

By the looks of it, it looks like you don't like to draw thumbs lol. I do the same thing with parts of the body I'm not comfortable with.

The colors look harmonious! You know the right amount of saturation and value they need to really stand out. As for the lighting effects, I don't think you overdid them, they look just right in terms of intensity and color imo. If anything, I'd suggest to add highlights on all the elements of the character, according to the light source. The hair and the horns could use some small highlights on the right border- but that's really it!
A thing I really enjoy about this pic is how the design of the character and the pose match perfectly. Great visual communication!

I did some Jen Zee studies to push me into lineart and this was suprisingly calming (still had like 3 sketch layers before clean one) I might try this coloring later. I messed area around waist a bit it is too long (copied piece).

I finished anatomy classes finally. I wanted to wait with it but my legs annoyed me. (That lady was done before) So now I will have to focus on it, I will rewatch some parts etc. Feet are weird to do.

I need to make portfolio for art school but I am not sure if I still want to apply. I was at open day in that school and it is a nice small cozy place (Game designing) It is not that far and tuition is free. There is also fine arts academy but I don't like style they are going for.
The thing is I think I am better with learning on my own (compared to this path and local course i took) and there is so many courses online.
Maybe it is worth a try since it is free and I could resign later (if they will take me)...

This is a pretty good render for the last one The back thigh looks larger than the front leg.
the legs look a little short to me.
I think you need to make some more shading on the first Jen Zee study.
Maybe some shading on the fore head over the eyebrows. Keep up your studies.

Thank you @gregorya! I think legs appear shorter because I made them too thick and angle is a bit wrong. When it comes to study I wanted to do the colors as well so I left it this way but some lines could be more thick. Maybe I will color since it it pretty clean.

I tried following Marc's video about lineart. I struggle with line weight sometimes I don't know if I should thicken line or erase it so I just choose intuition. Bluring lines is funny. Legs are hard feet even more

I realised why it looked wrong. Initially I had a table in the backgroung so I put arm this way but I changed my mind but have not changed hand position. Also I asked someone to pose it for me and they had shoulders differently. I also tilted head slightly. I thought about changing glass holding hand but I like this maybe I will correct it. Also I have thumb this time. Would it look better this way? Which way the shoulders should go? Everyone I observed leans differently so I guess both are natural

2 looks more natural to my eyes as the right arm sits on the surface the force would lift the shoulder

My mistake, Patricia. It looks almost exactly like the reference. The second blue looks good.

I did some eye studies. I used the same set for both realistic (more or less) and stylised ones.
I also wanted to do some quick figure studies but gave them backstory and spent much more time than I intented. I had problem with shading the first one and something weird happened to her face. I think middle one arm is too long but I might keep it for her dragon/lizard like design
