Hello,

My name is Petri K. I have been member here in Cubebrush for some time now and have taken part in few ArtWars.

I'd like to post some pictures of my works here. How I progress while doing images. Hopefully I'll get some good feedback and maybe help someone else out aswell

Alright, this is what I am working right now on. I did not have anything else in mind so I picked my brothers Death Knight character from wow to make.

Here are some workflow shots. I basicly started out with loose sketch. Put some colors in there and preliminary light and dark places.

I did put alot of time in the face first since its the first place your eyes go. I have had tough time with faces lately and wanted to nail that.

Got little stuck on the shoulders so I got some photos of skulls to get things moving again.

I should soon think where I want most of the details as I usually just render everything if I dont have a good plan.

This is looking awesome so far! I really love the face of this big guy and the color choice. The shape of his hand is looking somewhat too stiff/flat, maybe adding some more volume with light and shadows could help that? on the knuckles for example.

Hello serovero! Very cool picture. I also tend to overdo it with the color dodge all the time, at least I think so. Then I turn the layer on and off and can't decide what looks better.

In the case of your pic I think adding the glow when everything is more defined could work better. Personally I always find it hard to render the picture further when having an atmospheric glow over parts of it. Just my opinion tho, looking forward to the final result!

Hi Serovero !!

Nice one, I like the mood and your colors. I suggest you to reconstruct the hands, because it's an important part, also you could push your values also, to link better the differents elements of the characters. Also, his axe looks flat, same here, you can make modules to describe better the form and the volum.

Suomi perkele!! Looks really neat, I would suggest maybe putting his face more in the shade and pop that backlight a bit?

Rather than just share the images I made some more detailed log how I went about the painting continuing from 2. Hope this helps someone

Refining the bw image. Lineart on multiply on top 100%

leave background on own layer
top layer "line art" multiple drop to 40% (what do you feel comfortable)
Merge layers below lineart (not background)

add new layer on top of bg on multiply and drop some red on it

add one layer on top of bw orc painting below lineart. Overlay green 40%

add second layer on top of overlay green and experiment with another green colour (put this layer on color mode)
- selected more gray hued green and put it on 40%

Start adding more color to the skin by adding new layer right below lineart (line art should be always on top at this stage and set to multiply)

added more color in the same layer (more bluish)

Made new overlay layer on top and started experimenting with green color into the eyes and perhaps adding more
green mist or some magic coming from below

changed background to more of violet color for now as it felt better with the greens.

now comes the fun part of painting over the lines and making the picture look sharper
- make new normal layer on top of line art and start painting. Most of the different colors and hues should be in the painting at this point
- using color picker tool right next to the area you want to paint over to select color and than "just paint"
