Hey there, this is definitely an improvement, you’re getting those art gains 💪🏼
As for things getting closer to you. Do notice that in two point perspective, as you move the vps closer together, everything kind of fits more and more within a small frame. And as you move the vps farther away from each other they make things occupy a larger space. Same thing with compression, things in the middle get smaller as you move the vps closer, and things in the margins expand - until a point where our minds see them as deformed
This is very similar to what happens when you use wide angle lenses in photography and the visual effect only works of it affects all or most of the features in the canvas - since everything in art is like little lies that we tell people’s brains to fool them into thinking it’s real, you can always play with the rules you learn and use them in creative ways that help you convey what you ultimately want
Life is our best teacher, so reference is where it’s at, look up some photos in wide angle lenses vs “standard” and “telephoto”, try finding ones that would work as 2 point perspective and compare where the vps would be. This has helped me understand it much better. In the end, we want to emulate those things with these rules and other tricks (line weight, color fade, value fade etc) so it always helps to see where it comes from
Cheers
