Inspired by the castle of same name, this environment is designed to embody the ancient Anglo Saxon Architecture with a distinct sci fi presence.
Rebuilding Sarum just enough for a militia to call it home, because in reality, this castle is nothing but foundations now, With a residential district, farm and main command centre in the citadel looming over the main stronghold.
Work on the project started in late September where we got concepts done and worked to make the environment, the process of developing ideas was organic, not limited to ideas put on paper, but just just creating cool stuff as the ideas happened.
When designing the layout of the castle we looked at artist renditions of how the original castle looked, then made our own concept art based on that, then we looked at what assets would need to be made, buildings, walls and other things that we'd see in abundance throughout the environment and then made those first.
Some tower designs we never used but we made several models just to spitball ideas.
When those initial assets were made started to build the scene, creating new assets on the fly for specific roles throughout the build.
For the command centre we wanted a nomadic feel to the place, the idea that these people only recently moved in and there was no guarantee that they would stay, so the command centre is very exposed , with only a tent for protecting against the elements
And from there we built up the rest of the stronghold
