Should I get a Wacom Companion 2 or a Laptop + Intuos?

I can't decide if I should get a Wacom Companion 2 or an Alienware 17 Laptop +Intuos

I would like to be able to play games and browse the web. Would that be difficult on a Wacom Companion?

Which spec wacom companion were you thinking of? I wouldn't recomend the i3, which is the one I got.

Have you thought about getting a cintiq 13" with a lower spec laptop? Or an ipad pro? Another alternative is a tablet like a surface 4.

I was thinking of an i7 2.8GHZ with 8GB Ram and 512GB. The alienware would have 16GB ram, a faster processor and a better graphics card. I don't really need it for gaming, more for art but I still need to be able to play league of legends on it.

that's a good point. I saw a 12wx on cragslist for $500 so I guess I could do alienware + something like that. I just like the idea of being able to have something very portable without having much tech and wires out.

I see, then yeah the cintiq companion 2 would be able to play that at least half decently. Just so you are aware even with the i3, I was getting like 3-5 hours of battery.

The housing is plastic, painted to look like metal, and the screen is shinny glass, with a matte screen protector on it that will eventually get some scratches.

The 12wx is alright, 500 seems like a bit much for it, as it is supposedly inaccurate with the colors and pretty small. A bonus about the cintiq displays though is that you can swap the pen so that it appears on the other monitor just like a intuos. Good luck with the hunt. Thought I would share my experience with that tablet.

I can't decide on an Alienware + Cintiq 13HD or a Companion 2. Can someone help me decide quick? I would pay $500 more for the Alienware +Cintiq which would take me long to pay off but I don't know if its worth it. Does the Companion function well as a laptop? Or will it just feel like I'm using an art tablet all the time? I really do need it primarily for art but I also need it to run everything I can on a desktop.

Good : Companion 2 is the best in terms of art on the go, I went with the companion 2 I7 8GB ram, and have had no issues (But I do no 3d work so I have no input there).

Bad: It'll function like a laptop for the most part and can handle league of legends at low-med settings with little to no lag, BUT its a very wide screen format so its kind of weird and I would not recommend it for gaming at all.

Summary: If you are more serious about your art and are looking towards doing that for a living then go with the companion 2 I7 as it is a monster and it alone made it possible for my wife and I to do go anywhere at will while still being able to work which is INCREDIBLE!

My 2 Cents: Gaming really should be done on desktops.. Even the 5000$ razer blades have some issues so if gaming is your requirement for the equipment then I would not go with either, but I cannot emphasize strongly enough how great the new I7 Companions 2s are for work on the go.

Something I forgot to mention.....having dual cameras on the companions means you can go for a hike......find a badass composition in nature (cool tree or run down building), snap a picture of it. and go straight into painting over it...INSANE!

Have you seen the new Wacom tablets that just came out? More choices... What kind of games do you want to play? If they aren't too intensive there are posts about people getting lots of games to play (fairly well) on their Surface Pros (full disclosure I nearly killed mine with a modded Skyrim but even my beast of a desktop started to flex a little with that one :D) Lots more amazing artist than I have been doing some really great stuff with the iPad pro (and of course you have iOS games) but that imo isn't really a desktop/laptop replacement... good luck with whatever you get! Maybe you should check out surfaceproartist.com or parkablogs.com for a lot of different device reviews....

Wacom announced few days ago Wacom Mobile Studio which has 8k pressure sensitive 13-15 zoll and 93-96% adobe rgb. I think if you want to go for a companion this will be a much better deal.
