some older forums i've been to had these.
i think it would be cool to have one.
to leave short messages, strike up a few short conversations, and check out user activity.

Instead of shoutbox, best to just start up a discord. Eventually shoutbox just becomes barren overtime 
Best to just start up hangouts/discord/slack etc.
I'm a fan of the slack idea, but I'm holding my tongue until I see how that little envelope at the top of my screen gets imolemented. I'm expecting provate messages, but who knows maybe it'll have chat functionality too.
