Yeah shading is something I really really want to learn but it seems that the topic itself is huge and not something I'll be able to learn or get good at by just doing it without knowing all the necessary information. It's also something that's not expected from students this early except for some very light shading (I think). So it's a very typical thing for me to get hung up on
I keep telling myself that I've only been doing art for barely 4 months and if that sounds much I only put aside 2 hours a day for it. Sometimes less. Before that I had no knowledge in the art area except for some very very short stints before Artschool probably wasn't even an idea.
I watched that video and it's pretty interesting. I'll try to incorporate that into my warmups where I'm drawing heads. I'm going to give (light) shading a shot during the nose segment but not spend weeks crying about how it doesn't look like art by people who have dedicated their lives to the craft
It'd be interesting to see how much on average (ignoring outliers) one would learn with the time I've put it so far, around 240 hrs I guess. That's "just" a month of full time 8-hours a day.
The 2 hours a day is not set in stone and will probably increase once I've learned the fundamentals and set out to create my own things.
Also thanks for the idea PeterH! While I don't own a printer or have any good way of printing (and I'm only doing digital art) I have saved almost everything from the day I started. I saved it more for the purpose of "go back, look at ugly things, get motivated" but I haven't done that once yet. I think I'll apply a more "in your face"-style. Like creating wallpapers of weekly/bi-weekly/monthly things I want to track.
I'm going to go ahead and do that right now
After coding I'll start reviewing the part in anatomy 1. Looking forward to it!
