Hello O and welcome to Artschool! It's very interesting and inspiring to see an active art director particpating and being so motivated about it.
I'm really liking the insightful posts you've made and despite saying you struggled with the perspective/landscape assignements, I think you did well. I look forward to see more!
Hi O! It's really inspiring to have you in this forum! You are really full of experience, hope to see you really active in posting/reviewing our works
Hope that you will tell us something about your position as art director, it's so interesting!
And thanks also to all the resources that you put here, I think that I will use them hahah
Do we have to link you in our posts to ask what you think about? Or you will comment if you see something interesting?
And, well, welcome on art school!
Hey O,
Welcome to the program and thank you so much for all the resources you shared here.
And also thanks in advance for be willing to give us some of your time for feedback (Will definitely hold you up for that! š¤£)
So nice of a story you shared here. Also, have a bit more motivation to keep on pursuing the studies here and appreciate Marc's way of teaching as well even more.
Thanks again and hope you have a great time!
I can totally relate. I am in my 40's and I worked in the video games industry back in the 90s (Capcom, EA, SEGA, Oddworld) In the early 2000s I was touring with a band as a live Performance painter doing 5ft by 12 ft canvases in front of thousands of people. Then I got married, had a beautiful baby girl, got divorced.....and then lost my passion... I couldnt get anything out past a doodle. And I looked back too and thought, how did I make all that stuff and now I cant even find the motivation to produce a fraction much less even want to draw. My skills withered away..... But I did raise a great kid. She is now 17. And circumstances have brought me to a crossroads, and I decided to bet on myself and re-light that passion I knew was still inside. I began going through old art I had mad to re-inspire myself to redo it, or more accurately finish all those scribbles that had good ideas and intention behind them. I found Marc 8 weeks ago, and two weeks after that I became a student. My short time here has been nothing but positive. I have grown more in the 6 weeks than I have in 6 years.
I appreciate and welcome you here. You are amongst some great like minded folks.

Hi O and welcome! Thank you for sharing your story and being enthusiastic about helping and critiquing. Your reasons for joining are more than inspiring.
I totally agree with your points on pros and cons about traditional art schools. It is a great starter if you have the funds, but you'll never achieve this level of professionalism without doing continuous practice on your own.
I was eyeballing Marc's Art School for over a year now, but always felt like I didn't have the time. Well, being laid off due to pandemic surely helped with time management
I'm getting by. Swaying between "I'll never find a decent job again" and "oh! that's a new skill I didn't have before! How cool". So I can safely say this Art School has been keeping me sane. And yeah, discounted classes and tutorials definitely help. Plus having an enthusiastic art community is keeping me away from all the craziness on social media

very good that you addressing this head on. i do 1 hour of just loose sketching everyday. Each day i pick a thing and just do it for an hour to literally warm up my muscles. Days that I pick mechanical or hard surface object i always slow way down and my lines get so tight and the warm up is extra hard because im trying to be so precise. i have top keep reminding myself that the point is to get loose and understand the form. A day where Im doing old west covered wagons should be as loose as a day where im doing turtles or trees.... But I dont, and its hard...I truly get it. Look at Ian's stuff super super loose. Just keep at it, you are in the right mindset to correct the issue.

Update: a note to check sources when possible, especially if sharing / promoting purchasable assets.
There's been a lot coming out about the art community, especially the behavior of prominent artists in the games & entertainment sectors as well as instructors at brick and mortar schools.
