and I thought Marc was lying when he said that gestures would improve over time... they’re not perfect but they’re better than the abominations I had earlier This was like day 35(?)ish of gesture drawing so it’s nice to see some improvement — although I’m still struggling a bit with capturing the gestures in 30s.

(also ignore the anatomically incorrect skull and that second 5 min gesture — i literally spent like a minute trying to understand how the model kept her balance and then gave up and drew it lol)

drew all of these in my calculus class lol (still have a perfect score in the class, so I’m taking this as a win). #1 was drawn when I started studies (around 2 weeks ago?) #2 one week ago and the #3 this afternoon. Based off of Sinix’s anatomy quick tips — they’re so good and he’s so amazing!

I’m very proud of the third one, I drew it without a reference AND IT STILL LOOKS LIKE AN EYE. That’s my excuse for the really boring and messy colors — I was too busy trying to flesh out plane changes to realize my colors were turning into a messy gray blob. I think the eyelashes are wrong but I accidentally drew them on the same layer as the skin (nice job, me). Nowhere near as good as Vonschlippe’s eye studies buuuuuuuuut that’s why I’ve gotta stay practicing

Any sort of criticism or feedback would be amazing! — especially on the third one — I think that one is a testament to whether I understood all of the intricacies that go on with an eye, since I drew it from imagination and also because the first two are slightly outdated

(Hopefully this wasn’t too long or anything, I realllllly don’t know how to write forum posts)

Good Stuff! the only thing that I see could improve is the depth of the eye lids (I struggle with it as well). The eye itself has depth but the lids seem flatter in comparison.

Oh, good point! I’ll make sure to edit these studies and try to add that. Thanks for the advice

Edit: quick 5 minute tired asf paint-over extremely messy and I accidentally painted over the eyelid crease lol

(this was all one layer so it kinda got messy but now there’s a sense of three-dimensionality and it looks normal from afar, so it might be fine on a portrait lol)

I completely agree. in reality the skin tones do a lot of the heavy lifting for the drawing and eye lids can vary depending on ethnicity or race. just figured i mention the depth if your intention was to show deeper set eyes.

Thank you! Yeah, I think in the future I'll probably switch to color halfway through or something instead of doing it after I already finished the piece.

good job, although the neck looks a little unrefined. I think the different stroke directions throw me off.

value study (bottom left) ++ doodles! no undersketch for the value study but it ended up looking reasonably like the photo so that was nice. slightly asymmetrical but the photo was too so... whatever i guess

side note : these and the ones above are all part of the #med50heads challenge, i am doing it although i’m only posting a few of them on here (i’m done with 40/50 i think right now). the bottom right one was more of a study than a drawing because i took a more “painterly” approach to it with no undersketch, just blocking in values until it resembled a face

25 mins... you should atleast feel happy with that. this would take me 2hrs and i would still be struggling with getting the hair to look the way you made it look. Props to you my friend.
