Hello Everyone,
i watched the Youtube-Videos of Marc and i was curious about his art School Programm. So i started with Term 1. I am interested in Art but never actually Draw or Paint anything. (Besides Miniature Painting)As a complet Beginner i am excited to see where this Journey will take me.
I try to Practice straight lines and Circles every day. But the lines are always a little shaky. With the following Picture i try to put on the Line of Action, Head, Rib-Cage, Pelvis, Joints and Arm+Leg Cylinders on a Reference Picture.
and with the next Picture also, but i admit i cheated al little with the Circles and Lines in this one.
A little practice with the Line of Action.
Welcome to the forums alexander! I look forward to seeing your progress! The lines will be shaky for a bit, that's normal. Just keep practicing these cylinder constructions and the line exercise and that will improve quickly!
A little practice with drawing from a reference, not really correct with the position of the shoulders and proportions. Plus on "traditional" Paper, exercise for straight lines.
And i tried a little Proportion-Exercise. A lot of Training ahead ....I struggle with the right way to find the correct Proportion for Legs an Feets...
hello! welcome to the art forum! great start, keep up the work since it takes time to get used to getting confident lines. so keep practicing cause youre doing great! excited to see your progress!
Nice work Alexander! Keep up with those line and proportion exercises. They will pay off big time. In terms of the shoulders, they can be tricky to place for sure. For now I would personally use a ball as you did for now, or leave them blank for the moment. You could also check out a mannequin video if you want to press further for some construction ideas. This may be jumping ahead a bit but it may give you some ideas. Personally, I wouldn't sweat it much for now. I looked back at my cylinder practice and I had just left them blank.
Thank You balagteyscottbradley and Lockenheim.
you're welcome! ^^
While my Job keeps me a little Busy, i focused last Week on the Male-Proportion Exercise.First a few times on the Male Part, and since Thursday with the Female-Proportion too.
And just for fun, without any "Guideline-Boxes"
For the Week ahead, i continue to exercise the Proportions. And two Photos for creating "Skeletons".
Nice work! These keep getting better! One thing that helped me when I was grinding the proportions exercise was I brought the demo into photoshop, popped a new layer and hid everything but the grid. I would do my drawing over the blank grid and then could toggle on the example to see how far off I was so I could check myself and eventually after many practices Idid not need it anymore. I felt like that helped quite a bit. Keep up the good work!
Thank You Locklenheim, that is an interesting idea. I will try it.And still practicing the Proportion. But i think the next Week i try and start with Gesture Drawing, just to do something else.
Well, to be honest, I ended this week with still practicing Proportion. I couldn't make time for other Exercises. Thou i watched the Video about Visual Communication, interesting topics. And on Friday i tried my first Gesture Drawing with proportions. And it was honestly a nightmare. I couldn't find a right way to measure from the Reference, so i ended up building a Measure-Pencil, like Marc Brunet used in his Video. And after a few hours, on the third try, the result was still
So i will invest more time with Proportion-Exercises, before i try more of this.
Honestly it does not look to bad for the first try, If I were you I would keep doing the proportion exercises, but on the side try doing the cylinder skeleton exercise bot with refrence on the side instead of drawing over the body. Using mesuring pencil is not a bad idea i do it myself allthough i just pop in a line one a seperate layer insted of constucting a full on pencile You can allso try doing more seture drawing but instead of focusing on the outline try draing just "bones" and joints (by bones i mean drawing a line through the midle of a leg instead of outlineing it) you can use boxes for the chest an pelvis. Keep it up! Hope to see more of your work soon
I dont know if this is helpful but this is how I did my measurement drawings when I first started. I did this until I got comfortable with it and then Marc suggested I take the grid away once I was feeling comfortable.
Thank You both I keep that in mind.
And with one Day delay, some Uploads:
Ther is so much to learn and practice
Nice to see you working on your figures. Thats true there is a lot to study and practice, it might seem daunting a times, but I cant tell you for sure practice works.I have been practicing hands for the past 3 weeks becouse i find them really dificult with all the forshortening and overlaping. But today while drawing a character i constucted a hand whitout much effort and it looked decent in my opinion. With enough taime and dedication you will see things that seem dificult for you now becom easier and easier. Keep on trucking , Hope to see more of your progress in the near future.
Great work especially with the next to last one! Really loving that perspective on the torso box!
Hi everyone, i just upload few Pictures...First an imaginary Dancer.
I try a few things for a better measurement.
I also start to draw the Skeleton-Cylinder-Practice not over the Reference. This will be on my To-Study-Liste, for a couple of weeks.
Her left Leg-Hip-joint is a little far away..
