it wasnt bad motivationally because it was the whole focus, but in terms of figuring out how to do it, yep real pain in my ass. Sam Nielson does a decent enough job of explaining it though, that with scott roberton's stuff and it becomes a lot more manageable than you would imagine

Samn Nielson Exercise 4 Translucent Objects. all painted from imagination using the techniques and physics he teaches the reflections layered on the refraction can get really confusing in terms of layer management :')

5 minute gesture drawing drop. Aiming to do 100 then get back into anatomy and constructing the figure.

Love these! Like Handro said, you can really feel the gesture and also the various body types. These definitely reminded me what gesture drawing is about.

bit of an art dump of what ive been up to the past few weeks. I started taking a few online classes mainly for the professional critique and also the project based learning rather than keep hammering straight fundamental exercises all the time. was hesitant to upload because obviously this is an artschool blog, but tbh its more of a personal art journey blog and im too invested in it now, and frankly Ive been reading bits of everything and watching other content the whole time so theres no difference other than theres a few different teachers giving me feedback now. If you dont like it dont look. this blog isnt about marc's course, its about my development, its here for me and also people like me who want to get better and really love seeing other people develop as a source of inspiration. if anyone feels down on art or wants to discuss art and their journey with me Im completely open to that and Im here for you. This thread is for the hopeful artists working away in their rooms with big dreams and few people to talk to about it without getting embarrassed. we can do this guys. keep your head up

It's funny that you felt that way because I uploaded my CGMA stuff because of your previous Scott Robertson exercises
The critiques were also the main reasons why I went somewhere else. I couldn't get the feedback extension because it was full and I didn't want to wait around amongst other things.
Love what you have here. I've been struggling to make multiple concepts for three items this past week, so this is motivating. I'm on summer vacation from work and I'm hoping to ramp up my efficiency and a word I can't think of right now that has to do with how much work I can produce
Anyway, looking forward to seeing more of your journey.

yeah Improving volume/ output is hard when time is tight, good luck with it also, I dunno, thought I would just mention Im taking classes because people in the art community can be weird gatekeepers and get butt hurt. I mean I posted some schoolism stuff and Robertson but I mentioned its schoolism,, but thats self directed and cheap so usually people arent bothered. Im pretty open about how I feel about Marc's course, its good but I use it more as a springboard to understand the breadth of each topic and then go looking for more in depth resources. Also, the people with big growth on these forums already had a lot of experience, and/or theyre supplementing it with other content but dont talk much about it. I wanna be pretty open about what Im doing so others can follow along if they really want when I get to that super refined level one day. might sound cocky but my degree is in art so my job options are limited, its less dedication and more I HAVE to try to make this work out. Also I want to leave a record of my complete journey to help other people in my situation, even if I fail it might help other people avoid my pitfalls I guess

I'm on the same wavelength. I have an art degree too, but I didn't start really learning or have a clear idea on my career until after I graduated. I don't like my current "career" choice so I'm alslo doing as much as I can to do art full time. I agree about the course, definitely more like a sampler. I kind of wish I had this my first year of university. Really grateful for the internet and everyone who's sharing their knowledge though.

I did the exact same thing lesley, only started getting serious after I graduated. I was getting told off every time I tried to study fundamentals in art school so basically wasted 3 years waiting to graduate sadly. I should have just dropped out and known it wasnt my path. 25 next month and Im still on the beginner end of the scale, so its hard to explain to people that Im deferring normal life events/ standard of living to put maximum amount of time and money into learning art. the whole experience is a bit shit but at the same time theres nothing else Id rather be doing and Im happy to actually do the work/ learning. hopefully theres a fulfilling end to it all in a couple years
