1/8/2022 - Nude Figure Drawing Assignments

Note 1: I took more time today with the 5-skeleton and final figure studies to make sure the proportions and placements were right. It felt like cheating to use horizontal rule lines and dragging the sketch over the photo to verify/edit, but I think it's helpful to see how my eye tends to distort things compared to reality.

Note 2: The male/female proportion chart was done from memory today for the first time.

Note 3: The last two rows of gesture drawings (1min) are starting to look like they belong in 3D space, instead of just blobs. That's neat.

Note 4: I go back to work tomorrow from Christmas Break - I hope to still be consistent.

1/9/2022 - Nude Figure Drawing Assignments

Notes:

Today was a frustrating day at work, which made struggling to get the placements of anatomy elements correct even more frustrating. I gave up in the middle of the cylinder skeleton exercise and took too long of a nap. But I finished it after waking up.
I seem to have memorized the proportions diagram pretty well, so I may take a break from doing that one for a while after tomorrow. We'll see. I'm taking fewer pains to make it look nice and just getting the proportions done.
I'm probably going to start the next lecture ("Term 1 - Perspective") after 7 days of this daily practice. Today is day 5.

1/10/2023 - Nude Figure Drawing Assignments

Notes:
1. It's 2023 now... all previous entries said 2022. Lmao.
2. Really tired today. Did it anyways. Yay.
3. Practicing anatomy is tiring. I wish I was just good at it and could get to drawing awesome characters in neat poses. But c'est la vie.
4. Doing the same models for the skeletons is getting tiring. I'll keep at them at least for another day, then maybe swap in some new ones to the mix of 30 poses.
5. The 1min gesture drawings (last 3 rows) are starting to look more and more like proper sketches. That's neat. I wonder what would happen if I spent more of the 60 seconds plotting points instead of blindly adding volumes. Then again, it's only 60 seconds. Can't expect too much.
6. Faces are haaaaaard...
7. The figure drawing at the end - I lightened up the reference considerably to see the anatomy better.

I think it's really cool how you hid the details on the figure drawing in the shade, I would think you can also hide the ear for even better effect

Yep - a couple of those heads look disconnected. The figure I drew for the last exercise tonight was one of them. It took me a while to figure out how she fit together. And a good suggestion on hiding the ear. I should have done that.

1/11/2023 - Nude Figure Drawing Assignments

Notes:

One week straight of doing exercises daily. Neat.
I dropped the proportion grid for a while. Let's see if I can recall it next week.
I got some neat shapes in the 1min gestures (last 3 rows).
The human body is amazing. And complicated. Especially hands and faces. The model in the last photo was making a peacock of fingers. I dunno if I understood it even in the photo.

1/12/2023 - Nude Figure Drawing Assignments

Notes:

I started the perspective video today and managed to do the figure drawing assignments. It took 4 hours total, with a couple breaks factored in. I'm happy I chose to do it all and not wimp out.
I swapped out half of the 30 poses with new ones. One of them is confusing - the body is compressed/crouched/foreshortened. (the 5th skeleton below) But it's cool to see how the puzzle fits together.
