Here are some of the first scratchings of one of my ideas.

Like Athena who was born from Zues' forehead, fully grown and all clad in armour. My hero will be born from the minds of mankind (woah, metaphor). She is artificial intelligence and fully clad in a giant mech! I will use an Apache helicopter for some starter reference with the mech. Because Apache helicopter! And I needed a starting point.

The Greek goddess was said to have only fought for just causes and was goddess of military strategy, intelligence, wisdom, heroic endeavour etc. So a great inspiration for this.

I will share more drawings to show her internal robot workings in future. For now it's just her basic idea so doesn't look like much. But progress is being made.

Oh, she won't be fully grown (like Athena was), she will have the form of a little girl. Because it appears unassuming/unthreatening; and AI need not take any particular form. And appearnaces can be deceiving. Plus I have 2 nieces who would love this. Also this came to mind. I always thought, what was Tiffany up to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRXNNqNfQBs

Very interesting idea of combining an android with a god I like the power and movement in your sketches although she looks totally insane but as you know genius and madness are close to each other

Thanks @PetitChat , I'm glad you see movement in them. I must have explained my idea wrong. She is not really a god at all. (there goes the "interesting" part ) She is just inspired by Athena and has the same attributes-clad in armour, defender of peace, all wise, super strategic in all warfare etc. Basically really formidable. But more so in her intelligence/wisdom/strategy.

But perhaps once she wins this war, she will be remembered as a legend. And one day her legend grows until she is known as a god. Haha

progress from a few days ago...

This has been such a great challenge. Its been a ride and I have pushed through some boundaries. So I am happy with the personal growth and inspired by the others here.

I can't wait to reveal a twist to this image in the next progress shots

Yay, finished! I had all the fun

In the beginning this was inspired by the Greek goddess of wisdom and military strategy, Athena. Because this is a war after all.

Athena X, all clad in mech, with superior force field shielding guarding her from magic attack and weaponized to the teeth; she cuts a swath through her enemy with missiles, lasers, bullets and blade.

But it is not her superior fire power, speed and strength that wins her this battle. It is her strategy that helps her defeat her fantasy realm foe; for Athena X has realised, that all things are R-G-B. Her allies of the Sci-Fi zone and the beasts of the Fantasy realm all bleed in R-G-B, and she knows, there is one who rules them all. It is into the nether dimension that she must take this fight. Take it to the wielder of the almighty pen. Only Athena X can bring an end to this madness!

Here are some bullet points about some of the design thinking. Just in case maybe one person is interested.

• I knew Athena X didn’t have heroic features; big horns, beastly wings or 8 arms and a big suit of armour. So I really wanted to push the action and feeling in my hero image.
• The mech was kicked off with inspiration from an Apache helicopter and taken further. I have discovered that I like to use just a small amount of theme reference for ideas in the beginning and take it from there.
• I wanted Athena X to be seated almost like she was in a rollercoaster seat. Full of the swivel and jerk of a mechanical walking, running, jumping, strafing, flying mech ride. The feel adds to the fun I thought.
• I wanted her gun to be large and in charge! Take a look at the specialized tech on that thing. So much fun painting this.
• Her special brain technology has allowed her to analyse and sense beyond her dimension. I wanted to concept so much more on just her brain. I couldn’t even fit half my ideas in there.
• The hologram force field shield around her needed only to be an optical hint. Nearly all invisible when viewed straight on.
• That artist hand and wacom pen was so much fun to paint! A nice challenge to achieve real scale.
• I tried to keep an R-G-B theme within the hero image. To align with Athena X’ realisation that she sees into another dimension. The dimension of the artist. The one she must truly defeat to end this war. So the Mechs head has lenses and sensors in red, green and blue. Her force field has slight red, green, blue lines. The light from the pen is the full visible colour spectrum - a rainbow. And then there is her gun. Plus a few extras
