Going with a fantasy champion with a pet, one of my initial ideas was possible creating a creature to accompany him that would create an armour like shield or just a accompanying creature.

Here are the Initial idea thumbnails, I'll probably take a few of the thumbnails I like best and flesh them out a little then choose one for the final idea..

Weapon and shield concepts

Wow, i'm really taking to your weaponry concepts, I'm particularly into the axe concept, the decoration on the axe head gives off the impression of a sophisticated wielder, but that might just be my way of seeing it. I also feel that keeping your shield silho's simple for now gives you lots of space to explore with each on.
