Hello everyone!
I just joined up after seeing this cool contest. I am going with fantasy after much thought and going with a male character.
I need more males in my portfolio

Character: Male elf
age: late 30's early 40's
Class: Stealthy battle mage
What: He's a monster slayer for hire. He goes around helping towns and small villages with their creature problems for coin and coin only.

Concept Sheet completed:
When designing this character my thought process was "What would be a cool character that I could animate in 3D without crazy geometry penetration?" Well this is the character I came up with. I also focused on shape design, squares, triangles, circles that type of thing.

Illustration complete:
My idea for the Illustration was for him to jump down onto a Hydra and let the fight begin. I was originally going to paint this in a similar way like I did for the front character concept art, unfortunately(really fortunately) I have been slammed with animation work so instead I have a line/color illustration. Its different, but hey I am just happy to complete this thing.

Well here is today's progress. I feel super rusty after months of drawing cartoony and not realistic. haha Right now I am not worrying about expressions or pose. Im just trying to figure out my character. What he looks like, his body shape, his face. What is his overall shape..Its really boring drawing bland face and A pose. XD But I dont want to rush anything. Tomorrow I will be working on costume design and weapon design and then the fun poses and expressions come in. yay!

Hope my lines are not took light/tiny/messy/unreadable

alright here are some armor designs. Right now I like three but I am going to think on it a little more and focus on weapons.

I need opinions. My character is a battle mage, he is ruff around the edges, older, and has been through a lot. I cant decide which weapon. x.x

edit: added numbers to make it easier to know what I am talking about

my weapon design ideas, I have picked 5 and 6

the 2 I like best but I cant decide which one looks better. I know one will probably function better but 2 looks cool XD

Designs 2,4 and 5 are the best and perfect for a class battle mage! Nice lines and armor pieces! As for the weapon, bottom left and bottom right polearm would be the best in my opinion Next time put some numbers or letters for your choices, so it would be easier for us to point which designs we like haha But overall, nice job man!

thanks! I knew I was forgetting something when I posted. I went back and numbered them. Thanks for the input.
I stuck with armor design 3, It seemed different and not a typical look for a battle mage. i guess im going different. or more rogue/ninja mage......haha now i need to decide which weapons.

I have decided on my character.
I just need to paint him and figure out colors, tomorrow i am going to work on thumbnails for the illustration.
weapon color has been completed, I have a hard time with weapons, can never get them to look good. oh well, its still practice and could be a lot worse. haha

well turns out I do not have time to actually paint this. I am slammed with my final semester school work and just started a freelance animation job. So I will be doing a line art illustration instead. Here are my base lines, I need to go back and add some weight to them.

@Kreyhardt thanks, It will be finished..just not in a way I wanted it to be.

@berrysquare thank you, I wish I had time to make the final illustration just as good.

this is todays progress, base colors and testing lights and shadows..not sure about it yet..but i might have to stick with it since im running out of time and have lots of animation to do. x.x
