Hello Cubebrush community. I'm new to this site, but not new to art. Keeping this short, I'll be entering with a Fantasy-themed character design, hoping to push myself to create a high quality design I can add to my portfolio. All criticisms are appreciated.
My character concept is a barbaric warrior who wanders the continents, pillaging any man who dares to cross weapons with Frithjof. You will recognise this monster by his missing face; what is left is a grotesque skull face whose glare paralyzes you with fear. Some men may be unfortunate to have their face scalped off and added to Frithjof's collection that he wears on his body. Rumors allude that he was a great soldier from past times, but no one knows how he became this. Why is his own face torn off? Is he immortal? Is he cursed? No one has yet dared try to unearth Frithjof's identity. They only avoid him.
Update: 28th Jan.
Moodboard of some traits I want to try to incorporate into this design. Although alot of this draws from fantasy realism, my design will be colorfully stylized. (Think of Darksiders/Joe Madureira's art style for example.)
Silhouettes. Trying to find a bulky, distinguished shape for Frithjof.
Designs for Frithjof's half-skull, half-fleshy face. Not entirely happy with these designs, 'cos they remind me too much of pirate skulls or zombie skulls. I've also tried to incorporate some form of head-gear that ties around his face like a creepy torture device. Gonna develop this further.
Full-body sketch concepts. Not sure whether to lead towards torn/half-dressed knight armour lie 2nd and 4th, or more towards naked/barbarian clothing like 1st and 3rd.
