Okay, so I decided to enter the contest.
Theme: Fantasy

The initial Idea of the character is an eastern, traveler, young kid around 10-14 years old, from a forest/tropical place.

Okay, so I decided to go for a more western/cartoonish style, and try figuring out the face and the age, so I did some really rough sketches, to figure out the kind of look I want.

Kinda tough for me since I usually draw realistic/semi-realistic.

I've been doing more costume sketches but not really happy with them, also I wanted to try different hairstyles on the character so here are some.

I tried from messy hairstyles to some more traditional to some more modern.

Almost done getting all my ideas out, and ready to move on to the first iteration of the character, here are some ideas I had for the equipment, again, really rough.

Here's the first iteration of Itsuki, I need to change a lot of stuff, my biggest problems are that he looks a lot like Hiro from big hero 6, and the color palette isn't just there, also need to get a better idea of his weapon and abilities.

hey, really nice style! would love to see the complete illustration At the moment his arms seem way too short. If you wanted to keep his young body proportions, you could try shortening the length of his legs instead, whichever works better Keep up the good work!

Thanks, I was having problem with the proportions since I really never draw in this style or kids, I tried shortening the legs but with the pants that he's wearing made him look really strange.

ahh, in that case I would try extending his arms and shortening his legs at the same time. You should also have a PERFECT reference of what kind of kid proportion you're going after. keep it up you'll do just fine!

So I'm starting to do a lot of loose sketches to see what I want to add and what I want to get rid of, I'll be doing tons of these for the next couple of days just to get more ideas.

Ok so here's what the final concept is mostly going to look like rendered, I still need to make the back view and his tools to finish the concept, but this week I'm going to be moving to do the illustration.

I think the concept didn't change much since I had a very clear Idea of what I wanted, but in terms of achieving the character there's a lot of difference from the first iteration.

I started to do some thumbnails for the piece, here are my favorite 4 so far.
Most likely I'll be choosing from these 4 to make the final piece.

Hi, he's cute! I hope you're able to get it done. I still have to finish my concept sheet, but finally finished my scene today. The only thing I'm thinking is that I don't love the way the top of his head matches up too exactly with the top of the tree cave, and also too centered on it? Can you move him slightly more to the left or the tree to the right? Just a thought

Here's what I think might be the final piece, I fixed colors values and composition trying to adjust to more the feel of the piece. I struggled so much, and I'm not liking it very much but, I think I manage to save it from the mess it was, learned a ton though, it's the first time I've tried to do a piece on this kinda animation "instagramy" style. The only thing I ended up liking is the mood of the piece.

Not expecting to win anything, but I really enjoyed making the proyect and diving in into making a more animation/cartoony style, which I had never done. Again really fun and challenging and the amount I learned is a lot.

Okay so I think I'm officialy done, here's the final concept sheet and illustration.
Again, had so much fun with the process and I think I'm going to be starting an artblog here in the site.
