My inspiration for my drawing is based on Gustave Moreau's fantastic paintings as shown below, I want my drawing to feel like a renaissance painting, with vibrant colours and immense detail.

I began my drawing with overall shapes and lighting. I was inspired by the arches in the painting above, and how the light enters the area from behind. My main character Maerwyn has obtained the long lost mythical sword and is ready for a great battle. I'm hoping for the characters to look very emotional and statue like.

here is some progress, adding clothing which is based on medieval fashion, and long flowing hair which I think seems very appropriate for the style I'm going for.

I decided to give Maerwyn more free flowing hair in the wind, same with her cape. the fairies begin to look more real, I removed the awful looking bird, and keep working on some over all shading in the characters. I don't want Maerwyn to have simply conquered the blade, I want to present it as though it it her destiny! Corny much? haha

Now I'm beginning to work on the background and objects since I'm feeling slightly unmotivated about the characters. I'm sure I'm not the only one who get's this. I'm also thinking of adding some crazy looking flying birds in the white background, but I'm not at that stage just yet.
I'm making the stones shadow first, it looks defined but it will be much sharper later.

Alright I think I went too far with my previous idea. it's so intense and my inspiration for it totally diminished, that art block is hitting hard. I'm going to use the same character in a more simple environment, hopefully I'm more comfortable with this. Wish me luck T-T

Haha no, Gustave Moreau's paintings were not renaissance, they were done in the mid to late 1800s I think, but I'm not entirely sure. I meant to say that I was inspired by his paintings and renaissance paintings as well. Thank you very much though for your input though.

I'm continuing my image by coloring in some fabric and modifying the face. it's a slow process but I'm having a blast with it.
