Hello all! A little late to the party, but I'm excited to be joining this competition. I already started during the holidays, but I'm only able to post now because I was away with my family.
The original character I will be developing for this competition is part of a larger personal IP that I have slowly been working on, so I can't wait to see how she turns out. Hope we can all enjoy and learn something together along the way. Good luck everyone!
Mildred Asani, The Unbreakable Tide
Character Overview:
1. Warrior-Monk archetype
2. Peak physical and mental condition
3. Can greatly increase strength and become physically invulnerable for a period of time using magic
-- magic is used via "runes"
4. Runes are tattooed onto her body
-- only forearm tattoos are visible
5. Enforcer/Peacekeeper
-- she's part of a special faction whose members possess powerful and unique runes, and took it upon themselves to monitor what runes are being used in the world, and if necessary, control, hunt down, destroy or confiscate them.
6. Known as "The Unbreakable Tide" for possessing the unique invulnerability rune, and for combining speed and strength like no other.
A. Character Silhouettes
Initial Designs
This is how I begin any kind of concept: silhouettes. I learned from watching artists like Raphael Lacoste and Even Mehl Amundsen that it is important to start with the big general shapes first and figure out how to arrange or fit them together, to see how they look graphically.
What I considered when making the silhouettes is what Mildred's symbols of authority would be. I wanted people to be able to tell right away that she was part of the special faction of enforcers and peacekeepers. Eventually, I decided that I wanted the combination of the hat, mask, and cape to be her symbols of authority. Out of the 4 designs, I'm leaning towards 2 and 4.
Color Scheme 1
Color Scheme 2
This is something I tried out for this concept: figuring out the color scheme this early. I usually go straight to developing the silhouettes I like with rough sketches, but I wanted to try something new this time. I'm leaning towards 2, 4, 10, and 12.
