So at first I made some basic scetchy guidelines/silhouttes for male and female characters

Then I started sketching out some designs and creating first ideas and thumbnails

I don't really know with which one I should proceed. I kinda like all of them.

First of all thank you for you feedback : )

I picked now 3 of them that I think have the most potential and polished them up a little.

It's still pretty rough but I think you can see the directions the characters could go better this way.

Bottom left could be a guard protecting his land and bottom right could be some sort of cyborg monk living in his temple.

I'm not sure what could be the background story for top right, however I think that I like her the most because I feel like going with a light-hearted joyful look, which will be much easier with that character. Time will tell, what I will pick in the end.

All these characters are probably not what they will look like in the end as I want to experiment yet and try out a bunch of stuff.

Great thumbnails! What if you mix the monk and the guard dude? So he is a heavy duty protector of the temple ?

@mishma Thank you for your feedback. That could be a good idea but I think those two just look too much like some side characters in a story. I want to come up with something thats clearly a main character.

I've done some weapon thumbnails. I can imagine more and more in which direction I want to go with my champion. However, I'm still experimenting and thought that doing some weapon thumbnails could be a good way to get more of an idea for my champion.

maybe the guard dude with 2 and B or E as weapons so he is like a heavy duty version of a roman gladiator in the future and he is like a rebel who stands up against the blood lustering games from the government (like in ancient rome)

I wasn't able to upload anything for such a long time because of school. I'm glad that I can show you now my latest progress.

I'm pretty sure now that this is the kind of character I want to go with. Will also upload some more variations soon, if possible.
