Begin WIP:
Alright! Posting here so that I will have motivation to try to work on this. Am really busy with school and other projects, but could use the time to develop a portfolio piece and hopefully get involved in the community!

I'm currently thinking of making a champion that has as many of the aspects that are cool in fantasy as I can pull off in one character without it being overwhelming.

Here are some of the concepts or ideas I have:

• Royal Bloodline or Royal Guards. Exiled Nobility.
• Glowing magic effects.
• Wings
• Animal Companion.
• Fighting against robots/sci-fi tech.
• Armor.
• Sword/mace.
• showing compassion/protecting innocent

Here is the current work on making a final character design. I'll post all the sketches for it soon.

Armor design. Gotta refine and design the back and add the sword. Have to decide if he will have wings. I think that would be both cool, and not fit my original idea of the stuff I like in fantasy. Wings aren't included in what I typically THINK of with fantasy unless it's other creatures.

More refining on the armor. Think I may have to re-add the diamond shaped piece to his right shoulder.

Started working on the drawing for the final painting today.

Worked on finalizing the character design front and back. Added his sword design, too.

Which is better - blue and gold or orange and white and red?

Neat designs! I really like the top with orange white and red. And you could use those colors to your advantage in your piece because warmer colors tend to be in the foreground, so it will really make your champion pop! You could also contrast your character with cool colors for the background.

Thanks! That's a really good point about the warmer colors coming forward and cooler staying back! I'm aware of color theory but hadn't thought of that for this - so thanks! That will fit really well with the robotic stuff I planned to have around him.

I used my work on this project as a class piece. Here is the final piece for class; will keep editing the piece till Tuesday, which is the deadline for this contest. May even edit it past that, since this is a good portfolio piece.

But I'll use this as a color study, too.
