Final design of her mech suit.

Backstory:
-
The colonization of planetary systems has yielded fruitful results, new lands and resources, as well as new monsters which need to be neutralized. The most optimal method for clearing out infestations of native wildlife are freelance mech pilots. Due to the large number of colonies, one military force is not a viable solution. Agencies exist which contract out mech mercenaries for hire. Malory, know as 'Servo Maiden', is one such champion, battling for credits, and making the galactic quadrant a safer place.

Next update, turn around, polish and add to suit, initial mech concepts.

Future updates, monster concepts, rough thumbnails of final image.

I really like your raw style. The suits look nice. I think the 1st armor is the best. Maybe I would add some glowing things to make it more alive or make some of the elements in different color.
Can't wait to see more

I like the techy lines and details on her armor, although I suggest you group those details into some spots in your character, so audiences can look at certain places filled with details and the other would be a rest for the eyes. But anyway, youre really good at designing patterns and lines! Would love to see more

@gretcsh thank you very much! I agree completely with you. The first armor is evolution of the two after it, the last one is the first draft but I included it to show my idea for the final colors. I like the idea of adding glowing bits, I have a small one near here collar that's supposed to be a comm unit, might make it a bit bigger since it isn't reading well.

@Kreyhardt Thanks, glad you like it! I agree with adding detail in areas of focus. There is actually a second part to the armor which I have not posted as it's too messy still. It goes on her shoulders and hip area, as well as a cricket for her head, really brings focus up the area around her face. Might as well show it, here it is over old suit design, still needs lots of work.

And the first loose draft here:

Really nice rendering so far.. I'm excited to see the finished version:)

The design is a lot better now, adding those huge chunks of pieces of armors really brings flow to your armor, I'm glad how it turned out!

@sanguine Thank you, really trying to get my material properties down in the rendering!

@Kreyhardt Good to hear, still need to clean it up, but the basic idea is down. Will be functional too!

Thanks everyone, really appreciate the feedback and comments. Inspires me to work on this!

Should I post my background reference sheet? I see some other artists have already done this.

Yeah definitely post it, we'll have an idea of what design you're after, we might give suggestions too so its gonna be awesome

1 month later

Haven't posted in a while, not because I haven't worked on this, but because I keep throwing out everything I work on and starting over. I've gone through about a dozen mech designs, and finally think I have one I like and will push to final concept. The suit armor is almost done, will be sharing it soon. And i have a few ideas for the scene I'll post to get feedback on which is best.

Looking forward to seeing this challenge though to the end.

Also I've entered her into the 3D section of the challenge as well. If you want to check it out.

Also not posting my background sheet because I keep adding to it.

I'm doing the concept, illustration and the 3D at the same time, keep finding new inspiration.

Here is my background wall for my mech design.

Here are some mech designs I ended up not going with. Almost decided on the fat mech, but the stance ended up looking too awkward for me.

And a very quick, loose, sketch of my idea for the final illustration.

Looking forward to getting some feedback on all this.
