FINAL ILLUSTRATION
"Finding a way out"

The moment our champion is fighting for his life, trying to find the way to come back to our world from his punishment.

So, It's been super fun. I wish I had time to work more on it... I was in a hurry during almost the whole thing. But at least I finished it! (: I'm going to write below a full description of my character and his story, just because I'd like to share it with you in case someone is interested. It will be a long text so just read it if you are interested in the story!

STORY
" The All life Sword is a demigod, which was born as human. He interrupted the plans of a god, and he received his punishment. He was beaten with the sacred whip, but the god didn't know he was transferring a little bit of his sacred power along with the punishment. Our character broke his chains and fight with the god. He obviously lost, but he stole the god's necklace during the fight, and the god didn't notice it. He was so angry that instead of death, he cursed it to a more painful death, sending him to the other world, a land inhabited by monsters. The All Life Sword wanted revenge, so he combined the sacred necklace with his own blood and created The Line, a powerful weapon which changes it's form according to the fights. He survived in the other world, and killed all the monsters in the way to our world, becaming a demigod, acquiring powers. When he came back to our world, he became a true demigod because of all the events that happened, and now he's in a line between life and death, and also between gods and humans. He started to traveled the world, and is known as a legend by people in villages, towns and different cultures. Finally, after hundreds of years of wandering, learning about cultuires, humans and gods, creatures, ... He realized that with his powers he could save humans from god's punishments, but also save gods from human's actions. That's why he's The All Life Sword, known as a salvation in some cultures, and as a catastrophe in others, but no one really knows why he appears in such a contradictory events, because due to his curse, he's totally unable to communicate with anyone, nor gods, nor humans."

My character is known from the legends and tales that people narrate in the villages, towns, tribes and cities. He has been seen around the world in some different cultures, that's why he has not a concrete name (although I will give him a name in order to have a reference).

So, I'll tell you the lore and story with those tales I've already mentioned, during the process and explorations of the character. (:

I will post the first one as soon as possible. This is going to be fun!!

Here are the first rough sketches using as guide only my initial idea. In other words, just what I have now in my head for the character. We'll se how it goes after my research and studies.

I really like them as drawings, they have a tangible mood to them, though tbh I think a lot of that is coming from the illustration & pose rather than design. Interested to see how this develops and what he will 'do' in the final illustration.

Hey @josephniet Thanks for comment (: That was exactly my intention with these sketches. I just had an idea on my mind that I translated in just a mood to see if I like the overall feel. I will start with the design itself soon. Thank you!

"They say that he has a similar body than us, but a little bit changed. Hundred of years using his powers have deformed him and now his anatomy in the line between human and gods"

I did some thumbnails exploring the shape, the anatomy and rough sketches for the design itself. I think I'm going to do a mix between C and A, and as I'm thinking on having him with an unique weapon I'l explore that too. I'm almost running out of time for the challenge... hopefully I will have time for it =)

"My grandpa said that for what people describe, when you look at the face of The All life Sword, you feel fear and respect, but he doesn't need to tell anything... Actually no one has ever heard his voice"

Exploring the head and face here. I'm using as references random tribes images that I love, but I try to have as main references a mix between nordic-maori cultures, without being too obvius. The big one is not the final design, I think I'll go with a mix between the hair of E with A,B, or G. After this, Hopefully I'll have this weekend the concept sheet done, because in the thumbnails I already have a close idea of what I want for the body. Hope you like it! (:

"When The All life Sword interrupted the god's punishment, he stole his necklace, he combined that sacred metal with his own blood, crafting what everyone call 'The Line'. The sacred weapon he uses to punish the evil in the world."

So, as I wrote in the story, he carries a sacred weapon with him. I liked the weapon version in A, because I imagining it as a changing weapon, which adapts its weird form according what The All Life Sword needs. Also for the clothes and tattos, I think I will use some elements from here and there, because all of them have little things that I really like. I'm running out of time here!! Cheers (:

"They say that because of he walks between the life and death, sometimes it seems like he doesn't comprehend things that makes life beautiful. It's some kind of senseless soul which tries to understand humans, world, life, death and the gods."

Here's my final design. For now, we can call this one my finished concept sheet, or at least what I will post as finished in the first part of this topic. I'm planning to work a little bit more on it just with presentation purposes, but I think I won't have time... We will see (:

"The legend tell us that he used The Line for the first time in the other world, a land inhabited by monsters. After the gods threw him without mercy, he survived there more time than anyone before him. That's when he gained his powers, killing monsters and defeating evils that no one could imagine, and finally he reached the limits of that land, coming back to our world"

As promised, the thumbnails. These are super rough, not the usual frames I'd show to a real client, but they help me to clarify my ideas, initial composition, and what I want to tell. My favorite is B, but not sure if I will have enought time, and I wanted a more mythological shot instead of a cinematographic one. With that said, I'm going to paint D. I took what I most love from each frame (the monsters from B, the central composition from C, etc) and tried to stick to what I believe it's a simple but effective composition. We'll see. I'll post a more detailed black and white sketch (or color one) tomorrow. Running out of time here!! Will try to be as fast as I can!

"The weapon seems to have part of The All life Sword's soul. It change its form with magic, moving here and there like a puzzle"

I think it doesn't need too much description, it's all in the image. But as clarification I'd say that I was even thinking in some kind of grid-shield around the champion when he needs to protect himself. It's some kind of technology based in the magic he received with the god punishment. I really wanted to explore more the ideas, but you know... time!

" The All Life Sword fought with all his strength against all those terrifying monsters. He knew he didn't deserve to die wandering in that world, waiting for such a painful death. So he decided to fight for his life until his last breath"

So, here's a WIP for the illustration. I know, it has A LOT of issues. I'm not used to share WIPS. I paint adding colors slowly and correcting proportions little by little, and in this particular painting is more difficult for me because the character is designed with exaggerated arm proportions.
