Hello CB community! Glad to be joining another competition here!
I will be doing illustration for FANTASY side, and my champion will be a Witch, called Yezhi-Yaga, inspired for good part by Slavic mythology.

Story is: The kingdom of Manea has been enclosed by menacing Nagrar sea for centuries. They could see the land on the opposite side, but never cross over to it, their ships would always disappear mysteriously. Few people who managed to return from those expeditions would be out of their minds, claiming that there is a magical barrier of sort there, maybe even a portal to horrible places. Those who survived swore to never go there, refusing to share what they saw.
Alas, whatever barrier that was, now it's down and inhabitants from these unknown lands have begun invading Manea, leaving no room for negotiation new War begun and Manea was losing.
These enemies had more advanced technologies and strategies and were quite adept at using magic — something Maneans thought was dying out and here it was used only in healing practices, reliant heavily on faith and "Gods will", stories of Warrior-Wizards were just a fairy tales.
Despair made The Council to make a decision to send out search party to find rumored Yezhi-yaga, an evil Witch about whom stories circulated to these days — they had no choice but to rely on fairy tales. If she existed, they will find her, and found her they did.
Young scout Benjamin managed to find her through crazy luck, and through even crazier circumstances managed to get her to help them, and since sinister Yezhi-Yaga joined Manea troops, the tides have turned in their favor....

oopsie~ emergency project came up so I had to focus on that last week and I fell of the wagon with this one. But I'm on my way back xD

I only have character personalities so far, but not concrete design. I know definitely that Yezhi-yaga will have Wolf skin cloak in final image, so when it comes to her a lot of my attention will go there, but before I'm able to dive into character designs I want to get a feel for the world itself, so I'll be doing some exploratory speed-paintings for the rest of this week.
But here's what I have so far

The first and last one could be interesting as a full artwork.

hahah, don't worry, no animals have been harmed for making these paintings xD

For me first one was kind of funny, like: Here I am, chilling on the hill, watching over my sheep and then giant steaming sword-fish burst through the clouds xD

mhm, I can relate to that no story problem. This time I actually have a story, but my focus is all over the place, hence the sloth like speed.
We still have whole month though, but it would be wise to pick up the pace — time flies fast

I've been brainstorming a bit on zeppelins and tanks and some ideas for final comp — will choose between A,B,C,D ones. Comments and suggestions are welcome

Not really sure what's hapening on the image A (composition for illustration) but I like it

Otherwise Zepplin 3, 4/5 & tank 6 or 8.

Ok I've been clearing up some of my chosen comps, again I like A or D ... I think I might go with D... We'll see, more opinions welcome At least I feel like I can move onto actual character and other more relevant designs for final illustration
(I mean, tanks and zeppelins are going to be far in the background anyway xD)
I know this is not gonna be the most epic looking champion out there and this will probably fly way below the radar for judges, but at least I want to make... "strong"character and illustration for myself, I guess I want to have fun with this more than anything and tell as much of the story as I can ^_^;
...
And comp A might serve that purpose better, only more sketching will tell xD

Don't worry about that...I mean you, me and certainly others are just here to share our stuff knowing by advance we're not here for the win (even if a little part of us would like it haha) but more for the fun part - honestly that's always good to have some feedback and improve in some ways !
And I really like to see the progress/improvements from others too, that's really too cool !

Coming back to your composition, I don't like the A anymore, but who knows what you're going to do with it
B & C could be interesting too

I just read through this topic and am really enjoying the progression (The tank vs horse, lol!) Out of the latest thumbnails, C looks really cool to me...sort of a rockstar/diva strut going on there that conveys a strong sense of her personality.

Ah, not at all, I didn't mean to come of as a downer like that xD I just stumbled into one of those "comparison blocks" I mentioned in my video. I'm loosing steam with this (no pun intended xD). I've been barely able to push this forward, but I am determined to finish it ^__^

Thank you! yeah, I think I will incorporate that tank vs horseman moment definitely, it really is cool storytelling element it'd be a shame to leave it out ;D

I started working on that final illustration, I think I'll start with square format, I like how this looks at the moment :3 There will be more concept sketches along the way aside from progress shots.

Cool perspective and pose! The character definitely feels powerful.

I like the color work that you're laying in as well. Her right arm (our left) feels a bit off, almost ass if her shoulder is too far back or something. Just something to keep in mind before you start rendering it!

Yep I definitely see what you mean. No matter how I drew it though that shoulder always ends up behind the boob, I hope I manage to make it less awkward as I go xD
