Einar the supersoldier, incarnation of Odin. His superpower is a god's essence, which gives him strength and speed, making him a super-warrior. An orb on his armor helps him to control the power, otherwise volatile and prone to spontaneous manifestations.

Ok, so the soldier is a kind of mercenary, fighting on the bad guys' side. Slightly futuristic, badass bloke. His power is coming from a hi-tech device on his shoulder, giving him the sight into the minds of the best warriors from the past. The ghosts of those soldiers sometimes appear around him as a holographs.

Silhouette reminds me of Solomon Grundi, fun stuff. Really make him feel weighty.

Now for some environment to put him into.
Here are a few sketches, i was looking for a nice lighting, contrasts, general composition. The background shouldn't be too complex, Butch is the main character here.
I like the last one, stepping out from a dropship. Dark background will help me to show the holographs around him.

Now i made an inspiration sheet, searched for artworks i like and circled the ideas I'd like to consider in my design. This gives some idea about the target look im after.
You can call me lazy, but in this project im not looking for an original design. I want it to be down to earth, quasi-realistic as a futuristic soldier can be. I guess people like things that look familiar. My objective is to learn how to design a modern warrior, as for until now i enjoyed painting fantasy stuff.
