One thing that is a bit confusing is that her eye direction and movement is focused one way but the action is happening on the opposite side of the illustration, i would find a way to connect the two so theres some type of story context going on that relates to whats going on, other than that great job, characters looking like a badass

@Fris Yep! That layer was just toggled off for the most recent post, working on making the power obvious in that she is summoning/creating the scroll/paper creatures and not really caring about what is going on behind her because she is confident that its fine.

Gotta come up with some way of showing that its coming out of her more effectively than this one, while maintaining the pose, and show more movement. Ill keep at it, but any suggestions are appreciated!

Bunch more stuff, fleshing out some more, balancing levels, roughing in the whale creature.

I appreciate any comments or criticisms, its all been very helpful and I have been staring at this for too long, flipping the canvas helps but comments from other people helps more.

Could use some opinions on if the glow should be there or not, I am torn. A or B?

I'm torn because I like both. The glow adds more interest to where she's looking, and overall it does read better in my opinion. However, it does make that area more of a focal point, so if that's your goal I'd say its good! If not, then maybe toning down the glow just a little bit? I really like how it's looking so far!

@veesketch I think you were spot on, so I tried swapping it up to just have the ring glowing, I am messing around with the intensity now, but I think that it helps, what do you think?

I also messed around with some other stuff and moved forward with some of the other components, closing in on the final design.

Changed up the jacket at request, I think it looks better in leather, I will have to give the books a similar treatment.

I think I have a better solution for my arm and the summoning effect to go with he being the source and it being her power. Its a bit creepy, but I am ok with it. Any thoughts?

Creepy but nice! I would change the angle of the hand or position of fingers so that it is more readable. Aside from that your background has a very strong presence, you can dim it a bit. Maybe you can get rid of a lamp post or make i bigger to simplify the scenery. That was my two tokens

Thanks @innocent I will push back the background a bit more again, and I wound up messing with the arm quite a bit.

So to everyone, I could use some more opinions on the actual transition between her and the books, which one do you guys like? Any other ideas?

I am partial to the muscle ones and the flame effect, mostly because I could use another light source, and its fun.

Just integrating @innocent 's comments and also swapping out the arm to an idea that seems to have worked, Ive been starving for another reasonable light source and this certainly provides it. I just need to keep on working at the light and shadows at this point, and a few textures that I want to put in of course.

Wow, this is amazing! I really like your Illustration so far it sets a really nice tone for the world the character lives in!
As far as the Expression goes I would roll with B or D. These two are the most expressive ones of them in my opinion
Anyway , I am really excited to see the progress

Closing in on it now, just testing some submission things to make sure that the files don't get messed up in upload until the submit button comes back. Or just in case my network decides it would rather not work for a few weeks.

I am still open to suggestions and criticisms, they are always appreciated.

yay! Files took forever to upload (sub 3 Mb, man my isp has problems) but it looks like they are intact and the color is right. Tech aspects always seem to snap at me if I don't work well ahead of a deadline.

You have one week to add a poor dude being Bibliolaized.
Otherwise you can still work on your lighting to create a hierarchy in your image. Perhaps you can rework you cast shadows, they tend to be sharper and of the same intensity. In exemple the cast shadow of her hair on her face is too strong, and the cast shadow of the book on the pages should be sharp.

Wowee, you really went for an ambitious concept! I think this is very cool though and I think you got the character and idea down well.
