cleaned up a lot of the grain and created more depth by isolating the figure from the bg a bit more. Clarity is the goal at this stage.

Just about done with the detail prep. After this stage, it's about refinement and fx. I also want to see if I can prop in some more souls which I'll detail out as well. The point is to keep them from taking too much attention away from Morphos.

some more lighting and brushwork. Wanted to put the grain back in so that I have room to manipulate and create new shapes out of. That'll be for later when I wake up.

Wip update. Here I did some anatomical adjustments along with adding a couple of souls. The mood was also adjusted and more focus was put on Morphos by pushing the background a bit farther into the atmosphere.

Some anatomical adjustments as well as some texture work on the pillars. Also wanted to take a jab at the lighting that hits the ground from the outside and back up at the main figure.

Happy New Years to those who celebrate! Just got back from the fireworks and adjusted the composition to maximize the space my main focal point gets. I'll be spreading myself less thin when it comes to detail as well.

Would have posted this 20 minutes ago but my internet was down. Here is an update wip. I added in the lighting from the energy projections and cleaned up the anatomy loosely before any rendering. Photoshop actually crashed midway through the face so I had to redo it.

Well, I added in some fx, tried to shift the lighting again and finally put some skin tone variation around the chest and a bit of the arms. It's crazy looking at how much I've improved since the last Artwar. It's been little over a year since I've started digital art. Will do some touch ups if needed and go over the reference sheet to make any needed corrections.

Rendering right now. I secluded Morphos even more and may bump up the resolution to continue adding detail and accuracy.

more detailing. Added some symbols to his skin in order to add a more ritualistic element. That is the process he went through in a way. He accepted the gifts of death in exchange for becoming a vessel for it's conscious.

Another gap between posts because after I finished I realized how crap this drawing is on top of the story. I've revamped a lot of it and have been secretly working on the story and the character sheet to see if I could come up with something in the lines of the original concept but like...better. Pretty much used to redoing things so this comes as no surprise. I've been also trying to improve and think I'm ready to tackle this again. I'll drop the character sheet as a wip probably tomorrow because it's still evolving. the composition will be way easier to come up with as well. Wish me good luck.

Wanted to post this to stay active. The characters are only ideations and don't represent the final. Hopefully, the file isn't too large. I'm actually working on some designs right now trying to find the right colors. From there I've got the Fi'r spawns which I haven't even drawn yet. Can't wait!!

here's a compilation of the sketches I did today. They've already been incorporated into the character sheet. Wanted to again focus on finding the right colors to use. experimented with a mix of warm and cool gradations and learned a lot about how to use color to describe form. the line drawings were a big part of that as well.

it's weird how different the character design I'm going with is from my concepts. I think the thing that's closest in similarity is the fact he's bald. I did use the colors from the concept stage and I took skin color inspiration from the blue and green concepts (the last row of the previous image). The claws were something I felt would be cliche but I wanted to stick with at least one as a weapon he could use if his Fi'r spawns weren't handling the enemies. I might end up giving that another design run or another ability.

Here is the design I'm going to go with for my Fi'r spawn henchmen. These little guys were born out of the pit of the underworld and server Soul Aviators in their missions. Aside from the ability to manipulate and produce fire, Fi'r spawns are also great trackers. I wanted to showcase some more of the cool abilities like serious lava gut these guys can gain and then spit out but time is of the essence.

Said I was going to do some more ideation on the arm and came up with these designs. The orange blobs around Ezulriks arm are souls that have been captured. He actually eats the corpses of those on his list and uses their stored soul essence as a weapon. Not only does this scary looking arm attach onto its target, but it also electrocutes them. A rather gruesome way to go if you ask me.

Alrighty, here's the composition for this one. Don't know how it will turn out but I've got to stick with it lol. The focus was on color harmony on top of abstract shapes. Will be loose on this one more than likely due to time constraints. I'll still give it my all.

I also need to adjust the size so that at least one side is 2048. This has more to do with the file size than the actual image size as the ratio is correct in photoshop.

Alright Here is an update of the piece. This was very experimental as I'm still learning a lot. Having so much fun though.
