This is my first time posting/using Cubebrush, so if I'm doing something wrong, PLEASE feel free to let me know, thank you !

''Like a rose with thorns, Rosaline's whimsical paintings are quite the sight to behold, but touch them and you may find yourself in a picky situation, as her subjects shall come out to get you. When it comes to world domination, one doesn't need to gather an army, when she can just paint her way into anything.''

So that's kind of my idea for this contest, I haven't participated in the last ArtWars, but I'm gonna try to fit this one into my free time, and have a good time ! :3

First I've been brainstorming,
- Painting/Draw comes to life
- Time Travel
- Astral Projection
- Energy Conversion (like transforming water into lightning)
- Summonning
- Self Duplication
- Mind Control
- Prehensile Hair (a bit like Rapunzel?)
- Gravity Manipulation
- Liquification (like a water god)
- Night Vision
- Negation
- Animation

Feel free to use this little list, if any of these can give you inspiration for your entry !

On my turn, I ended up mixing the first idea with the last one, as what she paints can come out of their canvas.
Rosaline is a name I didn't put much thinking into, it's just that I know I want to paint a lot of pink, and her dress on the character sheet I'm currently doing, made me see an upside down rose

Then I started brainstorming her looks, the pale sketches at the left up corner, to give myself a base to start on, onto what I want to paint. Basing myself off inspiration, I first wanted to give her a Madame Maeve look from Westworld, elegant, and I wanted to add sheets of paper (like drawings) in her hair, like AquaSixio's painting of a girl with photos sticking out of her bun.

Then, If she'd be good or evil (and chose evil) , primary forms (circles, triangles and squares) altough I admit I didn't follow these until the end of the concept, also wanted to give her a Barbie look, because it'd fit with the character I ended up with.

I want to make her dress a bit abstract with paintings on it, and an éventail in her hand that she would use as a canvas to animate her 'army'

Then started asking myself what would the animated paintings be, and I still haven't figured it out

Aaaand with the concept, once I decided on the primary feel of the character, I pushed the design a little further

First one had the evil-ish look, by the triangles made all over her dress, but then I found the pattern to unified, like a copy-paste, and I wanted her to look more like a doll

Second pattern had that softness and diversity I wanted, but lost too much character

Final sketch was pretty much a mix of both, and the darker cloths would bring back more of the 'dark side' that the second sketch lacked and also break the pattern from issue 1

1 month later

Haven't posted a sign of life in a while ! I took a huge step back since my laptop broke down a few weeks back, got it back monday, I tried working on the Wacom mobilestudio but honestly it's not made for me :')

I did 3 thumbnails that I lost as my final illustration's psd file got corrupted, but fortunately I wasn't too far in the process. So all of these petty excuses just to say : I'm disqualified as I'll never finish in time, but I'll still be posting the the final product

So here is some screenshots !

I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays ! :'D

For the character sheet, I want, if possible, to make the dress multi-color, but I also want to make paintings on it, as if her dress was sheets of her own paintings (does that even make sense ?) .I'll go with a opal color scheme

As for the illustration, I'm trying to make it look like she's making her own army, I'll make the tiger, the demon and the queen behind feel like they're coming out of their frames, I don't have much ideas yet on how I'll do that effect, I've thought of either some glow like if the canvas just opened, or make it stretch and tear from the subjects (ex : like the faces and hands in a wall, in horror movies) . If you have an idea, please, I'll gladly ear it !

It's unfortunate that you had trouble with your computer. I really like what you're going for with this character and the illustration seems to be coming along really well. I hope you'll finish it!

I like both of your ideas to show them coming out of the frame, but I feel like the one where it stretches may be a bit more original. But I think both could work, so go with what you're most comfortable

I'm having a hard time with the demon's face, and the references I found for him just don't do it anymore,
Meanwhile I corrected the values of the overall composition, and listening to my favorite childhood movie's soundtracks (Disney's Atlantis <3) inspired me to do writings on the paintings that are gonna make the characters come out, still needs lots of rendering on that part
I'll try to find a good color for the sky section, unless you guys think the grey fits better,
as for the right bottom part, the green part was suppose to be a part of the dress, going to have a painting on it, but now I'm wondering if I'm really going with that idea, or if I'm changing it for something else ?
