Hey !

So basically, my villain is a mage lady who can summon ravens.

I'm really happy I'm done with it ! I'm fairly happy with how she turned out ! It's pretty close to what I had in mind from the very start !
I'm exhausted, I've worked on this character pretty much 24/7 when out of work... But it was worth it ! I learned a lot of stuff, I feel that I've improved a lot, and I could experiment further with game art !
I wanted to have an Overwatch-y look on the model and the textures, hope I'm not too far off.

For some reason I'm having trouble with the Submit button. The rules ask for a 2048px "at least" image, but it keeps asking me to crop my image! Having no size requirement, and therefore having worked my image with this resolution, I don't want to crop it Also I'm never asked to submit the Marmoset Viewer, so I guess uploading both in this first post is alright ! It's also in my last post, just to be sure !

Hey !

First wip here !

Managed to work on the body, face and started a bit the accessories this week !
I'm planning to work a lot on her this weekend !

I'll add some feathers on the transition between her hands and her arms ! A bit like Hauru in Howl's Moving Castle when he's transformed !

I'm still editing the design at the same time as I am modeling her, as some stuff I had in mind didn't quite work out and were just not right.

Hey !

Another WIP ! And time to relax and sleep a bit for tonight !
I'll add the hair and the robes after I do the posing, as I want it to be really in motion, so it'll be much easier this way !

I'll need to refine the face a bit !

I'll probably change some stuff about the design later, I'm still thinking about it and considering some changes....

Nice sculpt so far! Careful about the ears though, I suppose they are place holder but if you plan to show them they really need to be reworked, even for this stylized approach they are not believable at the moment.

Oh yeah, you are not the first one to tell me this ! I'm well aware of it actually, I just haven't worked on them yet, as there is a really good chance they will be hidden behind hair... I have so much to do and not much time, so I have to think carefully where I put my time and effort ! Good point tho, thanks !

Hey there !

Slowly getting there...
Worked on the pose these last few days. Tried a bunch of different things, but i feel like the one that matches who my character is would be this one.
I want her to be certain, haughty, proud and a bit arrogant, and still with a sexy touch.
The ravens will appear like a nova around her.

Started to really roughly block out the hair and just 2 pieces of robes from the sides. I'm planning to add more, but I'm still figuring out the shapes and movement...

EDIT: On second thoughts, I went into PS to try to find the right shape for the cloth. Came up with this, looks way better than what I already have ! I'll play with the length of it too. Added also a bit of hair mass on the side. But i'm still thinking about the haircut, i dont rly like that one :'D

Hey !

Here is another update.
Worked a lot on redoing all her outfit to match the style I'm going for. So that meant increasing the thickness of pretty much everything !
Also did the cloth, tried some variations before setting on this !

The hair is not final (obviously), I'll probably rework the strands on her forehead a bit, and I'll add a ponytail. I'm still wondering about it's size and shape, but I'll figure this out tomorrow.

I need to finish this, polish her face and the folds, work again on her anatomy (the shape of the arms doesn't please me), model the ravens and the pedestal, and then on to retopo (all the outfit being already modeled in Maya, it won't take long), UV and I hope I'll be able to be working on the textures soon !

Alright so time is running out, so I think i'm calling the modeling hi of the character done ! I'm pretty happy with the result so far. It's possible that I change her a bit at some point, but I like how she is at the moment.

I start modeling the raven asap, then on to retopo, which should be crazy fast if I anticipated it right !

heyyy !

I'm finally done with the Topo / UV and Bake !

It looks pretty good I'm happy with it !
I didn't really try to be extra low poly, as it's not a game art challenge and we are not limited in term of polygons, but she has 59k tris without the pedestal !

I've also almost finished the model of the Raven. i'll post an image soon, don't have it here at work !

Let's texture this now !

Hope i'll be able to finish it on time, it's pretty stressfull !

Sooo I started texturing this yesterday !
I basically used gradient maps over AO and other maps. As always, I'm trying to push toward an Overwatchy look !

I started to paint on top of those gradient maps in Substance Painter today ! Mainly worked on her face and a bit the hair (of course, I will add a nice flowmap on the hair to get a nice specular, aniso and everything). These screens are just straight from Painter !

I have to work a bit on the hair topo a bit to deal with the transition between hair and face a bit better !

I've been working again on the face yesterday, I think I'm done with it (or close to). Also did the textures of the neck piece !

Rest of the body is still just with the base gradients from PS. Need to add a lot in Substance as I did for the neck piece !

Needless to say, don't mind the "render", it's just screenshots from Substance with default viewport parameters so it's pretty crap atm !

Hey !

Almost done with the textures ! I still need to texture the cloth, the boots and the pedestal: at the moment, same as before, it's just a gradient map from PS !

It's really hard to juggle between different screens... Sometimes my colors looks way too saturated and contrasted... sometimes they look grey and flat... I'll have to check this right before the end on a proper but "average" screen so everyone can look at it the same way I do !

I'll do a final color pass when I'll be done with all the textures to polish here and there, color correct everything to fit together nicely... I should be able to start working on the shading and the actual scene in Marmoset pretty soon ! Got millions things to add around her to make it look cool !

I'm also done with the technical maps like the flow map for the anisotropy in the hair (not visible here).

I'm starting the Marmoset scene today, got a bunch of things to do to make it cool !

Alright so this is probably my last WIP before the finish line !
Started to light this into Marmoset and add the ravens !

I still need to figure out some raven's silhouette that are not right to me, improve the lighting (Some ravens shouldnt be lit the way they are), the render parameters (this is pretty basic), add some color variations to the light and MOST OF ALL, add the smoke trails behind the ravens (And some feathers flying here and there) !

Still decent amount of work to do, but it's gonna be good for sunday ! Phew !

EDIT2: Added a video too ! I've spent quite some time on this anisotropy on the hair, I was a bit sad I can't show it in my final image, and that MarmosetViewer doesn't support it
