Ok, so I finally have the time to take part in this contest. Been planning it for weeks, but unfortunately didn't have the time.
My idea for champion is inspired by my fascination of the Asian mythology figure - the monkey king, represented with my own twist - nature mutation. Pretty much the well known Sun Wukong will be placed in a whole new concept and context, like a type of wood spirit. My intentions for this project is to add something new and original to a well known and beloved character.
Cheers for the awesome contest, which is a great opportunity and a really good way to build up the community. Now, lets make some ART!!!

Here is some progress of the base body mesh, with some detailing of the anatomy and the face. It is good enough for now, I will probably work on further detailing at the later stage.

Blocked in some of the main shapes of the concept. Got carried away with the clothes Anyways, will add some patterns latter on. Still not sure about the center armor plate - thinking of metal or stone element. The back ring will be stone, blocks type of texture, so might go with the same style for the front element as well.

This is my progress so far. Managed to clean-up most of the hard surface shapes, and also worked a little bit on the mutated arm, still need to finish of the details of the tree bark. Also still have to work on the stone elements, clothes and of course the leaves. Any critiques and comments are more than welcome

looking really sweet!! love the oni disk thingy (dunno what its called XD) on his back! nice work!
is the left hand going to be all wood too? right now it looks like normal and its a bit odd that the rest of the arm is wood and just the hand is normal XD

@Ooyoo nah mate it will be wood as well ... I just haven't worked on it yet ... and I am putting more work into the mutated arm to clarify my idea, will upload process soon
I also need to rework the front armour pad

Ok, spent quite some time on the tree bark and the mutated arm. Still need more work and refinement but the texture is coming along well. Worked on the clothes as well, might add some Chinese patterns at later stage. However, i am still not a 100% sure about the center armor element, so any suggestions and advises are more than welcome.

The past couple of days I started to work on the overall look of the character, aiming to establish a particular type of details pattern (weave texture, ropes and the shan wen kai armor). I also focused on refining the combination of the rough tree bark in contrast with the smooth leaves. However I have a few more things to refine and add the final small elements which will give a nice contrast with the big forms that I established. C&C are welcome as always

Sorry for the long time without posting, but I was sooo busy .... However, managed to do a base color scheme in Zbrush ... For the texturing I will test a few ways and see which one is better, will export it to Keyshot and see how it works there with the materials, or poly paint it and export it to Marmoset ... and yes of course pose this bad boy C&C will be greatly appreciated

Ok, wasn't too happy with the overall look of my character, so I went back to the design stage and did a paint-over in Photoshop ... I added smaller details to just contrast the big elements and give that nice interesting and balanced look ... However it should look better when I work a little bit more on the texture ...
