In my opinion it is not a fanart but maybe these changes will be safer for the contest.
I really like the C because you can build new things with this. Why not, all the "shards" could be attached together in different shapes to create ninja-stuff like weapon, shuriken, shield, etc ?

meh, probably for the best v('-' )v I can see how the correlation could be drawn together. My votes on C, but as brainstorm you could do the lazer line thing you were doing it but following some sort of triangulated lazer structure to represent the forearms.

As far as the forearm connectors you've presented I like D best v('u' )v, but that's me.

good job on spotting that and making concepts so quickly for alternate costumes. When I saw your character I thought of that piece of art but I just figured you had already seen it.

@briandolan89 I'm trying to nail down a concept as quickly as possible. It takes me a long time to do this stuff because im slow and still learning! Yeah the concept is in my moodboard at the top of the page.

@Cybuster89 I think 4 is a cool design too. Although i have to admit i like 3 more. 4 is a cool idea, i just think it might be too flowy for this character.

@fantasymaster I'm glad, it means that i won't have to redesign everything! hahaha

@maxloegler I'm glad you think that. It's really difficult coming up with an original character in such a short time frame! Even though lots of people really like the original design i think its worth pushing and redesigning. It's made me rethink and question some parts of the design. I think moving in this direction is a better fit for the character. I hope everyone like the newer direction just as much as the older design

See this kinda bums me out. Guimares' art is awesome and I love his cyber girls series, but he is absolutely not the first artist to utilize the floating arm thing - it's actually a reasonably common trope in sci-fi art and design. Calling you out individually for incorporating something similar into your character doesn't make a lot of sense unless they're doing the same to him for emulating other artists before him. It's not a new idea.

That being said, I think you've moved your design in a positive direction all the same. For your 5 possible design paths, I think C is one of the strongest. The bare left-arm compliments the techy/holographic right-arm with some decent asymmetry and pulling the front of the costume down into a loincloth shape works quite nicely.

I like these changes but, to steal an idea is not equal to make fan art. you can be safe this way.

Nice design, the cloning issues are really hard to get away from, so many designs in the world you are bound to step on someone's toes.

That being said, i like the grid type of design you got going on, it keeps the electric field still in play with the 1st concept.

The see through (clear) arm is pretty cool in combination with the grid, maybe make the inside two pipes that can bend ? then the electricity is inside and on top of the arm? that might sort out issues.

This is a pretty awesome concept and I'm glad to see you're learning a whole lot from it. I saw you decided to change it to avoid similarities with an art piece and i think you made the right decision I think you'll be happy with it in the end

So just to update i have chosen a final design:

I'v started back on the 3D model this week although progress is slow due to being back at work. I'm still undecided on the sash bit that comes down. I started blocking it in 3d but i'm not entirely sure it will work so it may change back to a leotard.

Next update will be when the sculpt is more defined!

Do you really think she needs laces to her shoes? This ruins the style, and the scifi look. The shoes in the colored version were perfect.

Coming back to see how it goes I like the 'A' version in the previous paintovers, but yeah it's showing less skin and so less eccentric. And so less appealing/original visually, I guess. About the last version, I think you're hesitating on that piece of fabric coming down because it's like "half-way" between a leotard and something like traditional-chunli-costume (I'm bad with cloth names even in my own language, sorry xD ). So in this end you will probably choose one or another. Maybe you could add some weight on the end of it so it's a bit stable when she walks ^^

@itseffindan Yeah i think if i end up going with the sash section i will actually have it as a separate piece over the leotard. Joined together it currently looks like something long and saggy between her legs....
I will freestyle some stuff in 3D and see how it fits.

@grigouips Hahaha good point. I'v made a compromise! i felt like she needed the detail there so i'm going to give her self tying shoes (Nike is currently working on it. Yep is a real thing) That's the future!!

@tetsuoo Yeah it currently feels weird. I think i just need to try some things out in 3D and see how it fits. Hopefully something will just click and i'll be like "That's the one!"
