So, I've been figuring out how the 2 characters fit together; as well as creating an interesting silhouette. I wanted to place an emphasis on the characters' connection to each other (I'm intending on the shoulder armor on V to also include a locking mechanism to Y.A.N.G.)
But I don't want to leave out what happens when they work separately and looking into the forms changing into some functioning pieces of tech.
I'm most probably going to do a couple of "final" (explanation of the mechanics that I can work from, as well as the suit) sketches. Then comes the modelling, I am new to 3d modelling but I hope to be able to execute it well.
Thanks! Yes, I find that Overwatch is the pinnacle of great design. The characters' forms reflect their abilities as well as personality. I found that Reinhardt's silhouette was incredibly protective (and starting off with the initial design I was trying to force the idea of protection and defense through the form).
Interesting. Thin blade-like legs can be cool, but I think something more functional would fit better. May be something like this pogo legs
Thanks for the advise, I was actually considering something chunkier but hadn't put my finger on it.
I've honestly kept the legs this basic because I haven't started thinking about them; mechanically anyway. But I do like the pogo idea, I'm definitely going to do a couple of mock ups and explore the legs more.
So after a little messing around I'm one step close to the base model (I still want to leave some room for exploring in 3D).
@acap I had a look into the pogo legs, which lead me to looking into suspension; thanks for the reference!
Hi cool stuff I like the separated limbs and big mech body friend.
I found some similar-ish things and thought they might help you out if you are looking for details or things to add.
Looking forward to the 3D, if your new look up some tutorials online youtube has some good ones artstation, polycount.
A whole bunch all over, gumroad is usually paid to learn afaik, i hear they have some free stuff, I haven't even looked at gumroad tbh ever but i see links everywhere. Probably good for anyone to check out.
Nice work, hair is difficult(for me anyway) in 3D if you are going for realism.
Best of luck, looking forward to update.

Thanks a lot! Those references are great, especially for a mechanical aspect! I'm definitely going to incorporate those into the final design as well as for the weapons (which I'm still unsure of...)
I've got myself a handful of tutorials, so I can study at work XD I'm aiming to do all of it in zbrush so I can learn it thoroughly.
I just need to be able to manage my time well, so I think I'm going to start with V then progress steadily.
Thanks a lot! I have the tendency to leave things incomplete, something that needs to change. Since I've been using the thread its really helped; more than I expected! Its provided me with the right incentive to continue working at a steady pace. I really aim to get some form of discipline through this project, as well as confidences on the programs I want to master.
Just checked out your back story! I'm really excited to see how your project progresses!
I am guilty of the same thing, and it's not not great for my portfolio that's for sure! I'm glad to hear this contest is encouraging you to keep moving forward, I've only just joined but I'm feeling the same way too
Thanks for checking out my project! I'm hoping to have a lot more sculpting finished over the next week.
Looking forward to more updates from you!
