My final piece:
An ancient golem made out of rock and clay and chains. It seeks to crush and bury underneath the earth everyone who trespasses upon the holy ground of the long forgotten tribe that once created and worshipped it like a god.
Here are some initial shape explorations to get into the theme. As I've written in the description - it's supposed to be an ancient creation, so I'm trying to study some prehistoric primitive sculptures as well as some tribal art.
Really like this idea! I'm drawn to 8 and 15
I agree, the 8 and 15 really stand out in the mix. The first thing that had come in my mind when I have read your post is some kind of sand-worm or a trap creature, so the 8 is really appealing to me !Nice start !
Now trying to make sense of the silhoutte. Probably going for more traditional human-like golem but with some of the shapes from previous study.
@veesketch Thanks for the reply! Glad you liked ther idea!
@Oceane_Roh Thanks! Man, that's a cool idea about a sand worm, I haven't even thought about it this way.
Hey, i like this dude. It will be great on illustration, i think)) In my opinion 1 and 5 are best.
You're welcome ! (I'm a girl btw). I like your new sketches, the shapes are really cool ! I especially love the 4 and 5
@greckijjmarik69 Thanks! I hope it'll be great, yeah -)
@Oceane_Roh Sorry, "man" was more of an exclamation -) Yeah, I also like #5, but it seems too thin and not imposing enough.
I think this is really cool they remind me of the colossi from Shadow of the Colossus ^.^
Thanks! I'm not familiar with the game - but I've looked it up and I see what you mean -)
Second round of the silhoutte studies. I kind of know where I'm going at this point, but still trying to find some shapes that I like.
Third round of silhouette studies. Working out main ideas.
So here's my final conscept sketch. Took pretty much the second silhoutte from the last round and added onto it some details from others that I found interesting. As it is right now - I think it's a bit overdone on the details - but that's something i'll try to balance in the illustration, depending on composition.
Man this looks awesome as hell, like a cage
Thanks! -) Glad that it reads like that. I wanted it to look like some sort of skeletal cage thing.
Loving the direction you're taking this in! The cage skeleton and floating masks are really cool!
Thank you! I tried to mix some of the more interesting sketches into the final design. -)
Working out some thumbnails for the illustration.
So here's the first color pass. Decided to go with pretty narrow color palette - mostly earthy-brown and muddy to go with the theme, inspired partly by cave paintings with that dull red and ochre combo.
