Hello everyone!

I hope I am following the instructions correctly! This is my first post that showcases the progress of my hero. Usually, before I work on a character I start with a narrative in my head. It helps me to figure out a little better how my character will be since I feel like every character has a narrative no matter how long or how short their back story is. Stories help to shape a character so this is a short one that I wrote down because making my quick thumbnails.

Description:
A thief who had a shocking encounter was given a second chance.

Story:
Ashur was not always a good person. In his previous life, he was a deceitful and conniving thief. His life wasn't an easy one. He was raised by a group of notorious bandits and learned very quickly that the only way to survive... was to take from others. He was quite good at it, slowly made a name for himself, until one day his thievery went a little too far. There were rumors of an ancient relic hidden away in a sacred place said to contain unearthly powers not meant to be touched. Ashur went out to steal this relic in hopes of finally making it big. People may pay a pretty penny just to witness something so powerful and mystical. He didn't listen to the warnings, he took his chances and suffered the consequences. As he held the relic in his hands, it became unstable. Lightning shot from inside the vessel harming him severely. His bandit-brothers didn't want to even go near him, didn't even try to see if he was alive... they ran. He was left alone to die. However, the old deities that run our natural world behind the vile gave him a second chance at life. And was ironically gifted with the ability to control lightning using the power from the relic. He was left with a nasty scar as a reminder of his misconduct and lives mostly a life of solitude. However, if you mess with him or start some trouble watch out!

Okay! Now to the sketches!
These are really really really rough. I was mostly just fishing through my mind some ideas that I had, but once I gather references and think on it more, he will change over time lol!

Hey! You're back! Glad to see for this one again!
Very interesting idea! Those sketches are dope! Can't wait to see more!

Thanks! I know I came in a little late, but I really hope I can at least just get some stuff out there! It's better to try than to not try at all yeah? XD

You're welcome! It's never too late really I'm sure you'll have plenty of time to finish this!

Whoah love the story behind this, the designs look rad too

Thank you so much! I always try to make up a story first before working on the character, it feels like it saves me more time coming up with ideas when I can ust write everything down faster.

Good evening!

Another update to my character. I have gathered what I needed and now going to go full force! So for the face, I kind of already decided what I wanted to do, I wanted a strong face, maybe Ashur a little tired looking and so on. Someone who just clearly wants to be alone for the time being. However, for the hair, I was having a hard time with it.

At first, I wanted it a bit spikey but then I also kind of wanted it a little messy, for someone that used to steal to make a living I think may not always have the best amenities to take care of himself properly. I still wanted an edge to his look though, I have always loved those undercut designs you see on the back of the head. I wanted to do one of him as well. The markings could be symbol of his connection to the bandits or something that all the bandits share.

Later on in the week I may post lightning scars or burn scars, since I can't really decide which one I would rather go with lol! Enjoy these progression sketches for now!

Awesome work! The face is great!! I like the hair tattoo thing (sorry don't know the proper word o: ) It's a great idea!

Thank you! And yeah, I am not sure what they are called either LOL but they are just neat haircut designs.

Ahh that portrait of him is really well painted, the values and edge control are beautiful. Looking forward to seeing more!

Another update! I am trying to pace myself to make sure I am thinking about my character clearly while trying to make sure I meet deadlines XD. Here is Ashur but I was playing around with different scar/burn ideas. I mentioned in the story that he has a very noticeable scar that can make people nervous. However, when the scar could change from being like a normal scar to like a storm kind of darkish tone or shade on him? I was trying to figure things out lol! I can't decide. Enjoy the update!

This is great and all of them works! I like the idea of having the scar a different tone than the skin! About the shape what if it's similar to his powers, or the shape a skull or of what made him the scar if it's a creature?

Ooooo! His scar can be related to his powers or it could even be a tattoo of some kind!

something else you may also want to consider is the effect on form the scar would have - if it's running up the side of his face, since scar tissue is a tightly wound mass of fibers, it might be drawing his mouth into a snarl (further intimidating strangers!) if it affects one of his arms, it might have twisted the muscle or even the arm itself into an unexpected shape.

i love a character born with a backstory! interested in seeing where you take this guy. his hair is great and the way you imply forms with soft value is impressive.

awesome concept. looking forward to see more =)

I didn't even think of that! That would be more intimidating XD. But I will definitely try adjusting his arm scars, since scars do raise can look distorted.

And thank you for your comments and advise! I hope to share more concepts soon!
